Default Type S/Type R swaybar

I would like to know what parts are needed to do this swap on an EP3. There is some confusion about endlinks or what not....

Is it advisable to get the 22mm Type R swaybar over the 19mm Type S one?

Finally are there additional parts required for the same swap onto a EM2 coupe?

All you need are the bushings for the corresponding bar whether installed on the EP3, EM2 or ES1.

The 22mm bar is going to outperform the 19mm hands down but I feel either is a worthy upgrade for the Civics. The 19mm Vs 22mm is a good example of compromise between comfort and performance.

The 19mm bar will reduce spring compression (or commonly known as "body roll") while retaining a comfortable ride.

The 22mm bar will reduce spring compression even further but the rear of the chassis will feel quite stiff and possibly harsh for some. It is recommended that if you're upgrading a bar over 21mm, you should install a rear tie bar. Any tie bar will do.

There is a rear upper tie bar on the RSX chassis but I wouldn't be sure if that one would suffice however I'm quite positive the DC5R does not come with a rear lower tie bar unlike the DC2Rs from what I've seen. If I'm wrong, someone correct me.

Oh yes, and the 19mm bar is not a Type S only bar. It's 19mm for base and Type S.

Hope this helps.

I know this has been conventional wisdom for some time as applied to the earlier Civic and non-R Integra chassis, but does this still hold true for the newer DC5/EP3 chassis? Is there some sort of OEM chassis fortification on the later chassis that specifically accomodates the use of larger rear bars, as it relates to subframe "tear out"?

I was wondering the same thing - so I happened to ask one of the guys on this forum who lives in Japan if he has a rear lower tie bar on his new DC5R when he posted pics of his car. I WOULD expect the subframe to be better than the previous generation Hondas as the newer generations kept improving but I don't know yet. For now, I'd say a rear lower tie bar for $30 can't hurt the wallet to be on the safe side.

I'd like verification of this, too.

EDIT: On the other hand, I forgot to mention that the only issue I've come across hearing about with the 22mm bar is the stock endlinks breaking with cars that frequently autocross on RSXs. I wouldn't be surprised if this occurs with Civic owners of any model. So far I've never heard the subframe prematurely wearing and so far I hope that's a good sign.

Hotchkis sells aftermarket endlinks but I have yet to hear how they hold up.

I pondered about the tie bar when I got a 22mm bar for my EP, but then I thought, "the CTR doesn't have a tie bar and uses the same endlinks and chassis (presumably)"

but then again the CTR does have somewhat stiffer springs, which should mean less load on the bar than with the Si suspension, right?

What sized bar comes on the EP3R? Is it the same as the DC5R's?

And yes, stiffer springs = lesser work for the bar as the bar is supplemental for spring compression.

The CTR bar is the same 22mm bar.

The DC5 comes with a stock tie bar that I didn't even know was there until I installed a friend's Progress rear sway. If the Type S has it, I'm guessing the CTR/ITR has it too

I just looked through the rear suspension chapter in my rsx helms, and there's no mention of it. I've never read any posts about a stock tie bar. Are you sure?

I hope DC5RK20A doesn't mind me using his picture for this.

This is the stock lower tie bar. It's located under the crossmember instead of on the outer area like on the DC2R. Do you EP3 owners have this? RSX owners should have it. It seems to bolt up on the arms?:

EDIT: This is how mine looks with the same 22mm bar. I own a 2k2 EX Coupe BTW.

Which one? The top one is a DC5R and the one below is a EM2.

If THIS is the part you're talking about in red:

Then, No, the EP doesnt have one from what I can remember. But, if I can get one, I want one.

Yes, that's precisely it. It won't work on my car as you can see.
