Default Need Help Buying an Accord

Selling my Type R and looking to spend $6-8k

Whats the best Accord I could get for that in So Cal?

Haven't been able to find any with less than 80k miles and a clean title like EX or SE 95+ years

Too little money?

I know my sisters 95 EX blue booked for 7500 and it had 150,000 miles on it. For some reason Accords have high blue book. If you're looking at one newer than 95 and have low miles then you are probably going to spend a bit more.. Another alternative is spend 2-3000 on a car with high milage and put that extra 3000 into a engine swap that has less than 30,000 miles on it. Good luck

if you had a type r and goign to an accord, your goign to be for a world of change. i d say look for a 94 or 95, for cheap and drop the h22 and be a decent runnign ride for like 7-8k

I agree, that really is the best route for the money. You get a good lookin' car, and a pretty fast motor for the same price you would spend on a low miles Accord with a decent body..

For 6-8k here in LA, you could be looking at a 95-96-97 with about those miles or alittle less. I've seen higher mile 98's (105k) going for about 7.5k-8k. I notice though most of these 94-97's with lower miles at this price-point tend to be automatics. You know..."mom's car".

check http://www.cars.com

Insurance does tend to be higher for the Accords relative to other cars but I'm sure it will be FAR-FAR_FAR lower than your ITR. For instance, full insurance on my Boxster (in 1-2 years) is only $200 bucks MORE for the same type of coverage on my accord (950/yr vs. 1150/yr). Sux to be insured in LA. But better than New Jersey.

EDIT: Ahh...i see your going off to school. Yeah...get rid of the ITR...it WILL get jacked ASAP.

I'm going to get $20k for my Type R

Local dealer has a 97 Accord SE that I can probably get for $8500, asking $10k for it with 74k miles

This is at a Honda dealer and car mechanically looks good body is probably 7 or 8/10

I'm using the extra money for college law school or as a down payment on a house in the near future. The accord is an auto which is fine, I'll be commutting and stick would be a pain

I can get a 96 Civic EX 5 speed with 89k miles for $4700 and dump $7-800 into it for timing belt and all that also, just wanted an auto and the accord does have more headroom and features

Tax + fees on $8500 will put you close to 10k. Private sales can flub the sales "fees". If your complaining about headroom, sounds like your a tall guy. That EX civic will have a moonroof which will cut it down. My personal rec. is a 95+ Accord LX w/o sunroof but w/ all the power features like pw/pm/pl/etc. I bought my Accord from a Japanese PhD chick...what i found shopping around was that (from a Macro perspective) people who bought more expensive cars had the money to maintain them (and a garage to put them in at home...garage at work...you get the idea). This applies to original owners only though.

Are you going to be commuting to UCLA? On the civic, you could get the t-belt/waterpump/seals job done for about $350 if you did the non-honda-dealer route. However, you would be stuck in 5-spd hell on the 405. I know at UCLA Law they "don't allow" you to work during the quarter so take that into your $$ planning considerations too...

Place in Newport Beach has a 4 door Accord SE 97 with 56k miles for about $8300 + tax and all that

I may drive the 30+ miles each way to go check it out. I would prefer auto as commutting and living around LA the 5 speed would be a pain

Use this to check the VIN & infer (as a back door) how many owners the car has been thru, if its been thru a used car lot and how it's been taken care of...

http://159.145.15.175/VEHTESTS/PUBTSTQRY.ASPX

I ID'd the C-Class a friend bought from a used car lot as a one-owner cream-puff from Marina Del Rey w/ this technique. You examine the timing of the smog (once every 2 years ideal), the location of the Gas stations (same ones = ideal), and geographic affluence (i.e. Marina Del Rey vs. East Los Angeles). Good luck...

EDIT: Oh geez...this thing also tells you if the car's had problems passing smog too!
