Should i get rid of my Rex?
After owning my crx for 2 years now done everything i feel i can to the ef and still get let down.
Here is a discription of my crx: its a 90 si with a perfect body and black paint job, white 15" volk te 37's, CF hood, amber corners and bumper lenses. integra seats with custom brackets so they sit perfect, gsr gauge cluster, and shifter. under the hood i have a b16a, with a drag turbo kit.
The reason why im so bummed is because ive gone through 2 trannys now. and im thinking of selling my ef and moving on to a newer body stlye because they have hydro trannys and i dont hear about those trannys grinding and then going kabboom as often.
ive tryed everything with no luck, im not a bad driver, im not power shifting im basically grandma shifting my car because the trannys suck so bad. every b16a crx that i have ever seen grinds at high rpm. mine started out just grinding in 3rd at high rpm then slowly grind every gear at high rpm, then just grinding at all times at any rpm. ive tryed all kinds of tranny fluids, b&m stick shift, honda mtf, all different weights of motor oil. and the trannys shift perfect at first but in a few months start to go down hill.
Should i get rid of the ef, or does anyone know where i can get a tranny that wont blow up in 6 months from my boosted rex??

hell no, keep it. the car a cult classic. one of my friends has an 88 si with a b16a boosted. he has never had a problem with the tranny. and he mashes everytime he gets a chance. he runs a JDM ys1

on a serous note, get the tranny rebuilt, hell wait a bit and get a hydro to cable conversion, which will allow you to run your beloved hydro trannies (i don't know why you think they are any better, my 00SI began grinding in third after 1000 miles)

I'm in the same boat you are TurboEF8.
I sold my S1 tranny because it was grinding and bought a YS1(GSR) tranny. Now I come to find out this one grinds 3rd at high rpm, and to top it all off my compressor takes a crap on me last week. So now I'm sweating my *** off everytime I go home from work, and I can't redline 2nd gear. Not to mention the vibration, and the lound *** cabin. I'm starting to think about trading my CRX for a 96+ Civic HB, and just starting over. I love the CRX, but I think it's time for something newer.

take it to the next level .. you got the bolt ons down .. build a tranny or go hyrdo conversion. everytime you think you have done everything you can you have to wake up realize your not even close.

I believe the hydro trannies have dual cone synchros as opposed to single synchros on the cable trannies.
Also, they'll be lower mileage

If you weren't forcing the gears, the tranny wouldn't give out like this. The synchros do the same amount of work no matter how much power is coming from the engine, so that's not an excuse. Let the tranny do its work when you shift and don't force the gears in; no more damaged synchros. I know people who have run boosted D-series motors and still have the same tranny, with no grinds; the trick is that they know how to shift (and D-series motors/trannies are a bit less beefy than B-series). Going to a hydro tranny (which does not affect the synchros, only the clutch) is not going to solve your problem.

check this out

search under frontspoiler and they have one for the ED9 and EF8's. But the damm website is hard to read but they have a lot of different lips. I think it's actually kinda neat

thanks for all the ideas, right now im leaning twards a newer body stlyle, i love my EF it looks so clean everyone that see's it cant hardly beleive its 13 years old. i just am really pissed about my tranny.
im not trying to say that hydro trannys are or are not better, i just dont see nearly as many go bad.
im not forcing the gears either. i am shifting really easy and letting the synchros do there job. i have owned a d series boosted car, and it never grinded once, ive owned two different turbo'ed cars and a jrsc'ed car. the only car that has given me any problems is my crx.
i think for now ill hold out a little more so i can research the hydro conversion. i might give it a try and keep my rex. anymore advise on what i should do is welcome

just rebuilt it and brycoat all the internals! that'll ensure longer life. Also get a ATS final drive installed into it while it's apart. there are soo many things you could do.
don't give up on old school cars unless your getting a older car... like a 1st gen civic... then people would evey you.

YS1= dual synchros on 2nd gear. u want a hydro trans internals with a cable trans clutch, get a YS1. then you can at least rebuild it when theres a problem

Why would you think of something like that.
