fun... clutch just started grab B B B ing upon engagement, almost feels like wheelhop every time I come outta first gear... I hope it makes it to work and back.
Seems like it is finally time for a new clutch... GD. I got a car full of gear too and I have to drive to Gainesville for a job tomorrow. Heres the deal, I need yalls opinion on a good clutch. I am debating wether or not to replace my clutch with stock ITR and have my R flywheel lightened/resurfaced, or get a decent aftermarket setup with a lighter flywheel. as soon as I begin making some coin too...
more about my car for application:
the R block went in at 49550 and I now have 74K, funny thing is that its a gen 1 B16 pressure plate with an LS disk and GSR TOB chris found at the shop when we saw my ACT POS was past service limit... GRR. The LS disk had like 40K on it, the GSR TOB had like 22K and the B16a JDM PP had like gawd knows how many... hehe it was a rusty terd, but the friction surface was pretty. hey, that free clutch
bought me 10 months...
I dont know what Im gonna find when I go in there... GRR. I really dont feel like spending more than 500 total... any ideas? Car puts out a buck 160-5 with about 122-5tq at the wheels. I do the occasional AutoX, and drive on the street mainly. At some point if I can afford it I may want to begin doing some driving schools. Any suggestions will be much appreciated... Thanx

Mike if you do go OEM (even though Exedy is a nice clutch) i will give you my ITR OEM throwout bearing (brand new). give me a call bud. it's yours if you want it.
Less than $500..easy. Action Kevlar disc with single diaphram pressure plate. Stock pedal feel (heck if not lighter), smooth engagement, will last forever, grabs hard. Have had mine for 22,000mi with no problems. Talk to Rocket for clutch info. He has visited several clutch company facilities and said Action was the top in terms of quality and design (his opinion anyway).

thanks mike... i will have to take you up on that offer...
so stock ITR PP $165
action kevlar single disk $265
mike's stock TOB $whatever mike needs from me
what flywheel? act 12.5 lb seems nice, $225
nice thing is that I just booked a week of work starting saturday-wed which
will more than pay for the clutch and then some. my mech will more than likely
have to do it since I will have no time and will need to get the car on the
road asap. chris usually lets me use a car too...
I will have to see how this will play into my schedule this week...
the clutch is completely DeD now... it made it to Gainesville and back for a job and died in the driveway when I got home. I tried bleeding the clutch as per the helms and it seemed to feel better, then NoThin. KapUt

well... fortunately... I have the car driving again. the chief problem isnt
mechanical it is hydraulic. the MC gave out when I bled it with fresh fluid.
Chris my Mech tells me they usually go when you put new in after leaving
in the old for so long. He told me as a temp fix, install ATF... bleed it through
so it can seal up the holes in the rubber. Then install 50/50Dot3/ATF in it and it
should last for a lil while before having to be bled again or replaced totally. We
might just rebuild the MC in anticipation of the eventual clutch replacement...
even though I can shift fine now, the clutch is GRA BB BB BB BBB ING like a yank yank yank yank when I engage it. I think it is something with the clutch internally, however it could also be an engine mount. hey at least I can limp around and get back and forth to work

well, its still alive... I actually bedded in my brakes tonight. andie sent me another set of rotors, for some reason the ones I bought a couple weeks back warped on me. anywhoo. its held up to that, I was nice to the car tho...
so:
itr#132: Tim Wong
the flywheel came as promised with very little signs of wear on it, with a honda pilot bearing. disk was new, no use at all which was consistent with what he said. as promised I forwarded to the mo for $392 to the UPS guy and I wasnt disappointed. I did however give it a clean up, I took some 320 to the surface and follwed the hone marks. I wanted to knock off the shiny stuff left from the 5k kevlar/defective CM disk.
EleanoR: New ITR TOB came at the same time... I am estatic. Thanks again Mike
Just gotta let a couple checks come in so I can justify going the rest of the way. I need new motor mounts so why not get a nice set... I need the ITR PP and then I need to wait till the week of the 23rd so I can get her done. Im swamped until then... cant wait.
next thing will be my boy's comptech B16a (same as B18 only with 5 3/4" longer collector port) header and a high flow cat. I will have to resize my GSR B pipe... but it will be worth it. Get rid of that damned exhaust rattle...GRRRR

hey guys here is an update:
clutch MC FAILED 6/18/03 - ordered factory part 6/19, picked up and installed 6/20.
clutch MC installed 6/20/03 - factory recall/tech bulliten replacement MC. this part is for all integras, however not a NISSIN part that I could tell. the part calls for either an new clutch line or for you to slightly bend your existing line so it will mate up with the 10mm nut. This is reversed with the reservior from the previous peice. I made the change with installation of MC in about an hour
$102 shipped next day @ Fountain Acura
clutch mechanically failed COMPLETELY on July 10th. - the disk hub casing split near a spring and it ejected a peice of itself about 2" long and .25" wide. this metal was getting between the PP and disk and it would bounce in and out. the once cut .010" ITR flywheel is fine, needing only some polishing w/some 320
im sure its reusable. the surface of the PP is terribly scored toward the inside. It was a 88-91B16 pressure plate... hehe rusty as heck! The disk material had about 15K left on it from what my mech said, hes telling me that it would have begun to slip anyways. It was an stock B18 disk. > free temporary spare stock parts motor swap clutch which lasted 25K of abuse
New clutch installed: 7/11/03 - I have 215 miles on it now.
clutch masters 7.5lb aluminum flywheel
cm segmented kevlar disk (6springs in disk with 3 large rivets and nice hub
) $390 shipped from ITR 132 in San Fran
thanks Tim
ITR PP $146 shipped(yes the part number is accurate, list was 225 contact Bert-O)
800-741-2527 for good deals on parts... he even sent me an oil filter and some mouse pads and chatted up on the phone for about 45min one day. very cool cat.
ITR TOB: complementary of my boy Mike > EleanoR
Labor: dont have all the tools and dont work fast, so paid my mech friend to do it and I helped/learned. he gave me an 89 lude to drive for a week while my car sat while I waited for the PP order over the 4th weekend.... considering this I threw him $200 based more on appreciation than anything else. I figure the job was worth $150 and the favor on the car $50.
So all in all... I kinda spent alot of coin. BUT. Was it worth it...
OH MY... I'll post again once its broken in...
holy JEEZ! GSR clutch = 40-42 lbs, I had a ITR flywheel in there so figure 38...
my two boxes with clutch parts were marked from UPS as 11 for disk and flywheel and 15 for PP which was a huge box with other stuff. Im guessing my clutch is now 23-25lbs... vs 38-40 from before... HUGE DIFFERENCE...
My R block thanks me...
