Alright guys, I'm new here, but not new to the import scene. Just wanted to get that out of the way.
Anyway, here's my question. I know that most of you guys on here, including me, are into trying to make the civic fast. But recently I caught a bug. I'm buying a 660R Raptor when I get home. I already have a buddy of mine that's going to hook me up with a trailer. I was wondering if any of you ever towed a small trailer around with a civic? If I remeber right they're rated for 1,000 towing and 100 lbs. tongue weight. I'm not expecting to beat any Cummins diesel Rams up a hill or anything, just wondering what, if any, experiences people have had towing something with a civic. Thanks guys.

 

nothing wrong with towing small trailers with your civic. i think you just have to get your own change more often (that's what the manual says)

 

The trailer is a whopping 220 lbs, and the Raptor comes in at just under 400. Here's sorta what I'm looking at

I heard that a tranny cooler might be a good idea too, but don't really see the need for an extra 600 lbs or so. Hell, I've had the trunk of my car loaded up with more than that before.
How about stopping? Anybody ever tow anything with a civic and have to slam on the brakes suddenly? I'm just trying to look at all options here, because I really want to avoid having to hook the trailer up to me new baby. '03 Accord V6 with the manual 6 speed.

 

If you need the hitch I got one lieing around along with all the bolt to mount it. no instructions. Jsut the hitch and all hardware. the guy that owned mine before me had it on and t never failed him pulling a moving trailer from Kentuky to Washington. So a little trailer is nothing

 

Ehhh, I think you should be fine. 600lbs isn't like an ungodly amount of weight. Your si should be able to hang, maybe not on the steepest of hills but it should be fine.

 

600lbs isnt anything to worry about...think of it like hauling around a few of your really fat friends

 

yeah, if you think about it......4 people average weight ~170+ is like 680lbs. you should be fine.....

 

i towed a jetski w/ my 92 civic 4dr and had no problems and the car was lowered

 

you will be cool 600lbs isn't sh..... just keep them revs up. I have the torqueless wonder b16a in my hatch and one night I had over 800lbs in my car and was moving right along. yeah some of my friends are fat so what.

 

Well, it's official. I called up my local dealer and they'e ordering a limited edition 660R Raptor for me. My dad happened to find a guy that's selling a hitch for a civic, and me and him are going to weld up a trailer. Should be a nice little weekend project. I'm probably going to be looking at a Jackson kit for my car in the near future. That along with a new clutch should work out pretty good with the trailer. I'm also going to be looking at a new brake setup somewhere down the road to help slow everything down just in case some raccoon or something jumps across my way. Thanks for the input guys.

Hehehehe, yeah. I think I read somewhere that the 660 puts out 47 HP. Not a bad power to weight ratio if you ask me. each HP only has to lug around 8.5 lbs WITHOUT a rider on it. Now compare that to a civic's 45 or so lbs per HP and now we're talking. But thanks again guys for all the help.

45lbs per HP! What Civic are you driving? A 2300lb Civic with a 100HP engine is 23lbs/HP. With your math you'd be driving around a Civic with 51HP engine!

The Civic Si weighs around 2600lbs without driver and with a 160Hp engine you're looking at a power to weight ratio of around 16 1/4 lbs to 1 HP.

 

Use the Raptor to tow the Civic!!! -

I actually have a class 1 (or 2) hitch on my 5th Gen hatch - Manual says not to pull more than 1000 pounds - I use it for my jet ski and trailer, although it is not a lot of fun pulling the jet ski up the boat ramp with a front driver.....

Have had to ask guys with pickup trucks if they would mind pulling the jet ski out on the steeper ramps!! on me for not owning a pickup!!!

 

My bad. I don't know what I did with the math there.

I tow my SeaDoo with my Civic. No problems towing or getting up a boat ramp but the ramp I use is not steep at all plus it has huge grooves in it to help with traction.

friend tows his yfz450 and trailer with his ls civic coupe every weekend no problems

Still have the car. I DID end up getting the raptor and the hitch. Rolled around like that for an entire summer. Never really had a problem except on some real steep hills when I couldn't get any momentum before getting up to it.

Sold the raptor, hitch and trailer when I got orders to Portugal. Turboed the Si, made ~450whp, got orders to Korea, car went into storage for a year, got orders here to Hawaii, traffic sucks, turbo coming out and going back to NA.

Got an Element to tow my new hobby stuff around with. Got into road biking. No more gas or expensive trailers needed.
