Default Electronic load detector - function?

Good day all. I've found some helpful info in the archives on my bad electronic load detector. According to one post, this bit is unnecessary. For the time being, I've removed the "C" pin from my alternator plug. The car is running fine. I'm getting 13.5V at the battery while idling with headlights and fan on.

My car is a '90 Civic EX with a ZC engine. The questions are:

Is the ELD really unnecessary?
Did removing the "C" pin bypass the ELD?
Does bypassing it just mean that the alternator is running all the time?
Are there any problems that I should look out for if I don't replace my fuse box? ($190 new!)

Thanks for your help!
