I ran into the used car of my dream about a week ago. A '94 Integra LS with 105,000 miles on it. It was a black 5-speed. The interior was in perfect shape and it drove like a dream.

The ONLY problem was in the paint. It had blotches on the trunk, roof, and a small amount on the sides where the owner told us the clear coat had peeled off. I figured this wouldn't be too expensive to have re-done, as only applying an outer layering can't be that expensive or difficult, right?

Well, I called the Acura dealer near me the next day and was shocked to hear that it would require a new paint job. At first, I thought that it it was just trying to get money out of me, but every place after that I called said the same thing.

Anyway, this is really the car I want in my price range(4500 USD). Is this a common problem with the 94 Integras? Is there ANYTHING that could be done to make that car look better than it does now?

the best way to do it is a whole new paint job. I'm sure a side shop could do something to fix it over though.

 

no paint job is perfect... its a 94..thats 9 years of sun... i have seen it alot on cars.. dont trip..if the car is to your liking get it.. paint job is some thing.. you can have done... most the time the paint is like that is because.. of direct sun all the time..

Yaa.. the paint on my green 94 integra is fading like crazy. Started doing it last year on the roof. It was left at home in the Florida sun for 2 years, while i was in college in Atlanta. Now, I'm rolling in an integra that's in need of a new paint job.. but currently don't have the dough to fork over.

 

No problems w/ my paint, as far as peeling or fading goes.

 

The hood, roof, back hatch and rear bumper were faded on my milano red ls when i first got it. Just get a nice paint job.

Sounds like the car's paint was never taken car of. My 8 year old coupe was looking a bit dull, even after using meguiars and mothers gold 3 stage cleaning/polish kits.

After claybaring and finally a good detailer job with a buffer restored the new car shine.

The condition youre describing goes far beyond the clear coat. But there is not much you can do at this point other than keeping it as is and waxing, or repainting.

Use this to negoitate the prx.

Thanks for the help guys. I will just make him a low, low offer because it needs a new paintjob and see what he says.

If he doesn't go for it, I will keep on searching because I don't have any more than about 4500-5000 to spend.

 

this goes to bring home the point, you really need to make sure your paint surface is CLEAN before adding wax, etc.

I see these guys pull up at meets and start spraying their cars down after driving on the road. Most of them are fading like crazy and they have no idea why (dust = abrasive).

Try and use a clay bar before rubbing with wax, etc. At the very least make sure the surface is truly clean.
