How many years have you gone without changing the timing belt?
My 94ex has 79k miles now and I am wondering how YEARS you guys had on your original belts(without any problems) before changing them out.
...just curious.

The recommendation on timing belts for that year is 6 years or 90,000 miles.
I know people who have gone longer ... but you are playing with fire. The engine is an interference engine and WILL bend the valves when it breaks.

LOL - that's 'cause they don't HAVE a timing belt.

1994 Accord LX changed it last year at 91K so I guess it was 8 years before it was changed........
I read the manual and on page 133 for the timing belt it reads as follows
90Kmiles or 72Months (6 years) it has a R*3
R= replace
*3 = This service is recommended only
Now what in the world does that means required recommended only?

The civic my bro used to drive had something like 60,257 miles when his t-belt snapped. It was literally w/in 300 miles of the belt's interval....pretty unlucky eh?
i just bought my 97 accord at (99k)
now is 107k......have not touch timing belt yet......
im not sure if previous owner done it......so im playing w/ fire. i guess......

For the '99 Accord, the recommended time to change it, per the owner's manual, is at 7 years for 105,000 miles, for both normal and severe driving.
It's only been a little less than 5 years, and my car has ~ 55,000 miles on it, so no, I haven't changed it yet.
