Default dyno tuned my car - question

Mods: i/h/e, 7.5lb flywheel, skunk2 stage1s, camgears, vafc, fpr, ngk wires

I know the gsr intake manifold and the stock cat are bottlenecks, but Phillip at Intercrew was telling me I prob should have been making more power. the 165hp you see is after 17 runs so he was trying everything to get it up that high. Anyone have a similar setup... wondering what kind of numbers are being put down.

Also, a weird thing I thought was whenever he tried to make more power by adjusting the cam gears it would lose power. It actually made the best numbers when they were zeroed out. We checked the timing and it was perfect. Checked compression and it was 215 all across. I am beginning to wonder if I have skunk2 stage 2 cams instead of 1 (bought them used - seller said they are stage1s though). Before I installed them I remember there being a number "2" marking and the letter "M" on the other cam. I've searched and searched any I cant find anything. I've even emailed skunk2 - they havent been any help. Can someone please verify the visual differences in stage1 and stage2 cams?

comptech 4-2-1, apexi ws. I know it's better to have a 4-1 when you are pushing higher numbers - gonna change that when i get a new cat.

Not bad at all.

You just need a free flowing Cat, ECU, valvetrain and a Skunk2 IM and those numbers should jump.

I made 171.2wHP with my setup, which is VERY similar to yours, except I have a Skunk2 IM.

yea get a better cat...2.25in(or whatever size the header is OR just get a stock JDM Type-R header and get a 2.5in)to 2.5out,...and get a custom 2.5 mandrel-bent exhaust...should gain some top-end..also a Skunk2 IM wouldnt be bad either

I had similar numbers but I sacrificed top end power for midrange but tuning the cam gears. I started with 166whp and 119wtq, but ended up with 163whp and 125wtq with the power delivery at about 5k rpm. This setup was ideal for my road racing. So losing top end power may not be a bad thing. It really depends on what you plan to do and where you want the power, ie - drag race, road race, etc... A good tuner should be able to tune the car for your needs.

BTW, I have CTR cams and it sounds like you do have stage 1 cams considering the power you made. It looks like other dyno number's I've seen for Stage 1's.

God luck!

nice numbers too...also just wondering are the CTR cams just as loud as the Skunk2 Stage 1s when the VTEC hits?

D15 - I don't know. I haven't heard the Skunk cams in action.

here's my Dyno run. You can heard the Skunk2 Stage 1's at work. Turn your speakers up.

Right click, save as: http://www.we-todd-did-racing....3D%3D

*The video doesn't do any justice. Sounds alot better in person.

the apexi ws is not a straight through muffler (???)... if that is the case then you might be able to liberate a couple of hp with a straight through rear muffler. wouldn't set the world on fire though...

VTEC crossover needs to be lower. Try 4900rpm to start with next time and tweak it as necessary to smooth out the torque curve. It might have something to do with pairing non-stock cams with the P72 manifold, but I'm starting to see a trend with the VTEC crossover being strongly influenced by manifold choice.

No AFR's? Maybe I'm just not good enough to tune blind, but it's still good to know.

Your peak numbers are also a little lower than they should be b/c you're rev limited to 8000rpm. Another 300rpm and you could easily see another 5-10whp.

Your torque curve is pretty weak all-around and the engine doesn't seem like it's breathing all that well, especially at the torque dips.

Get a look at the AFR's and the picture will be much clearer.
