Default Poll: B20/CTR tranny vs GSR/GSR tranny

I currently have a STRAIGHT B20B (JDM) with a CTR tranny (same as USDM 4.40FDR). Topspeed is 130mph, 5th gear limited. Somebody had made an offer to trade my whole swap for their whole 96 GSR swap.

My setup will vs his setup will absolutely ROLL out on him, however, he does catch up on top end.

I think I know what I want to do but I wanted to see what you guys have to say.

YaY or NaY?!

Is top speed important to you? If so, you answered your own question. If not, I would stick with the b20/ctr combo. If you get tired of it, slap a turbo on it.

Leave the b20 in it has moe torque and has more potential. Put the gsr vtec on that b20 block and you will kill the gsr. The final drive of the tranny is what makes your top speed so bad. If you want more top end I hae a nw ls tranny Ill trade any day for more botom end

i say go with straight gsr. If you do have future plan for the b20, keep that b20 and throw vtec head on it.

yea ill agree wid the homie up there^ go straight GSR everything. If you like top speed then i heard of someone getting a GSR transmission and putting an LS 5th gear on it. dont quote me on this though.

my vote goes to b18c1

B20B is better with GSR tranny. IMO CTR tranny is too close for the B20B
if you are going crvtec, boring the the GSR block with sleeves is safer and you can rev higher with GSR.

CTR tranny is too close for turbo too
B20B w/ CTR tranny is gonna suck on highway.. after all it depends what type of driving are you doing...

I am just talkin from my perspective.

the reason I said that.. it's because B20B is not a high reving motor unlike GSR or b16... when you use a close gear ratio on a engine that doesn't rev as high, you will get a lower top speed.

and I personally dont like to cruise at 4k+ rpm on highway with b20b or b18b.

This is just a personal perference.

I love my friends eg with b20 and b16 trans. IT rolls through the gears like a ****. b16 gearing is cool for b20. maybe swap in a ls or gsr 5th gear then it will rev a little lower

Keep the B20 and get some cams to it... you should be able to kill him in the upper RPM's and in 4-5th gear. Top speed does matter on what tranny you have though. Besides how often to you race up to 130mph?

keep you CTR tranny bro...(it has OEM LSD right?)
I do agree with what others say about how the B20 is not ment for high reving and that the tranny gear ratio is too close but I personally would stick with what you have so far and get a LS 5th into your current tranny.

Going 4th to 5th will feel like your going form 1st to 3rd gearr... seriousely! but I personally don't mind it. If you want more info IM TodaSi(chad) he has ITR tranny with LS5th and ATS 4.971 final drive

get cams and a skunk2 intake manifold for the b20 and your top end won't even be as bad as everyone likes to say.

I love my b20b..great toy! then again mine is in a crx, pretty light.

High revs + B20 = many reliablity problems...the block simply is not made for it. Just get a stroker kit for a GSR block !

the point with a b20 is to not have to rev high to make some power and torque.

Keep the B20, no replacement for displacement.
