AEM/UR pulley kits...
well i have heard many differnt reasons as to why or why not you should or shouldnt buy the pulleys listed. some say that they do not cooperate with big sound systems, windows roll up slower, lights dim, and many other things. but i was wondering if all of these defects were true...i have an SS lude (hence my user name) and i've heard about a 9hp increase is found using this product (AEM). is this true? i havent heard about the UR racing pulleys, except taht they use the same size alt. and PS pulleys as stock except they are much much lighter, would this prevent the windows rolling up slower and light dimming? thanks
If you have a system over 300 watts you probably shouldnt get them. Lights will dim when you are sitting at an idle. As for the windows and stuff I think it is on a user by user basis. And someone on po.com got a 7-9 whp gain on the dyno with the AEM pulleys.
When I was auto, the AEM pullies (alternator & Power-steering) were the first mod I did and they were well worth it. For an automatic, it's a better mod than exhaust, intake, headers as it does not rob the low end. You will notice that your engine will rev up a lot easier than before & the prelude will have more of a sense of urgency. I had no problems with the windows, lights, or stereo. Please note that I have a stock head unit in the car. I've now had the pullies on my motor for four years & do not plan on taking them off!

Are you looking for more people to say you can use them? I thought you had gotten that assumption. I will say this, I have had them for a couple years, and IMHO, it was the best bang for the buck upgrade I did. I have an average sized aftermarket stereo, and had no battery issues, no power steering issues, just improved throttle response. This is refferring to the AEM kit that underdrives the Alternator and Power Steering units.
The UR pulleys are supposedly 20-30% lighter than the stock units, & that's where they claim their gains are achieved as opposed to underdriving.
Now my stereo system is a bit bigger than usual, but not extreme. 2 Phoenix Gold amps pushing @500 w RMS. I'm assuming that this would pose a problem w/the AEM pulley set?

I must have been unclear on that. I don't have either set, I was quoting UR on the difference between their pulley set and AEM's.
The amps I'm using are 500w RMS TOGETHER (the zx 475 is 75w x 4 & the zx 400 is 100w x2) so, my question is: I'm assuming that power output (and I still need to add another amp for the bass later) will not allow me to use the AEM pulley set, but what about the UR?

Every little bit helps. The stock PS and ALT pulleys are pretty heavy. And the AEM pullies are much lighter and BIGGER! No adverse effects at all. *Well, if you count a more rev-happy motor, a side effect*
(Slow window? Grease it up!) (Lights dimming at idle or when the bass hits? 1.0 farad cap works great!)
BTW, be prepared to run to the parts store a few times to get the right size belt. The belts that came with my AEM's were a little too short.

Well the only problem I am having is that whenever I "roll up" my windows, sometimes they do this sorta hopping or kinda vibrating thing like its stuck or something. It does't hop THAT bad but its gets annoying
Other than that, good mod. I dunno about that 9hp gain because all these mods I have gave me about 21hp and 11ft-lbs over stock.. if the pullies did about half that gain, then DAMN thats good!
