B16>>no vtec, no CEL, and my temp gauge pegs to full hot after warmup!! HELP!
I have been working on this problem for like a month. I have swapped my DPFI B16 converted harness to a SI harness, replaced the starter, alternator, checked all wiring from the ECU to proper location. I still have the same problem as before! My car will not start, unless I compression start it, vtec does not work, and my temp gauge pegs to full hot after warmup. This is driving me nuts. If anyone has any ideas please hit me with them!
thanks

When your gauge goes to full hot, does it over heat or does the needle just shoot up there really fast ? If it shoots up really fast then I would say you have a bad ground some where.
Yeah try the grounds. If they are fine than take out your cluster and see if any part of it got burned. For some reason in my car I must have gotten a short because a piece of wire (the kind thats like integrated into it) got fried and my needles were going crazy.
I have checked all the grounds on the car, front to back multiple times. So try and figure this one out>> My starter will not engage while it is in the car, even with direct battery power to it. This is a brand new starter, so I took it out and had it bench tested and it works perfect!! What the hell????? That makes no sence at all.
The temp gauge only goes to full hot when the car is warmed up.

Feel the upper radiator hose. Does it get hot? If not, then your thermostat is ruined and needs replacement.
I have little to no respect for bench testing. I'd just get a replacement starter.

That is the replacement starter...brand spankin new! The car is not actually overheating, I will check the thermostat though.
If your starter works out of the car, then it sounds to me like your not getting power to the starter while its in the car. Put your starter back in, and test to see if your getting power to it. Then if everything else fails, hook the battery directly up to it. By the way, your starter could work fine while its out of the car, but it might not have enough amperage to turn the car over.

Did you convert your car to manual from an automatic? If so, i think i know your problem. There is a plug that used to plug into your auto shifter. It has 2 thick black wires going in to it. just jump the plug with wire, or cut the wires and wire them together. About 6.5 volts depends on if those wires are together for yoru starter to turn. Good luck.
nope wasn't auto to manual conversion. The crazy thing here is that the brand new starter works perfect on a bench test, but it will not engage while it is bolted into the transmission housing, even when I connect it with direct battery power. The motor actually has about 4 volts going to it. I mean when the key is on, there is 4 volts at any givin point on the motor, the distributor, intake manifold, block, transmission housing, everywhere! There are no breaks in any wires, so I am thinking that a sensor is bad or something and is somehow supplying the whole motor with power? also, how do I tell if an ECU is bad?
thanks guys!
