People who have taken out their AC system
Hey guys, I want to take out my AC compressor (the part of the AC system that mounts right underneath the alternator). I think this is the AC compressor. Anyways, I want to know how best to do this?? However, I don't want to take out the AC lines.
In a few days I am going to be installing my DC header and my new sway bar. Is this the time to take out the AC compressor?? What else do I have to do to get it out??
Thanks

your going to need to drain the system to take out the compressor....
why do you want to take it out anyways?
oh, i believe the compressor is above the alternator too.

Hey man, thanks for the help.
I am taking it out because my AC doesn't work. I THINK this piece of the AC unit is bad but I am not sure. I bought this car used. Right now, it dooesn't even have a belt driving it. The pulley on it doesn't have a belt driving it.
Also, I am going to mainly use this car for the track/AutoX/some daiily driving. This is a second car.
How do I drain the system?? It might already be drained.

to check if its drained already, i would bring it into an ac shop. your ac just might need a belt, or it might just need to be recharged.
if you wanna drain it yourself.... find the ac hoses. there should be a little plug somewhere that looks like a tire stem.stick something in there to see if there is any pressure. if there is, then you need to either do it yourself or have a shop do it for you. BE CAREFUL!!! THE R-12/FREON is extremely cold. dont let it touch your skin, or breath it in.....

yeah that too.
shops have recycling machines that drain the system automatically. you might wanna look into that option. im sure the charge wont be too much.
