Not really, the pistons are the same size as a6 so any aftermarket ones work, there are cams and gears out there. So i/h/e with nice cams/pistons and some tuning and it can be a decent little n/a car. The turbo route is simply a somewhat easier and cheaper way to make the same power. Junkyard setups can go for about 600-1000 for everything and the install isnt as hard as it is with pistons cams etc.

Is there a such thing as a turbo KIT for a CRX with a ZC?
How much would you estimate te $$$ for i/h/e cams+gear?
How hard is it to piece a turbo kit yourself if there isn't one aftermarket to buy?

Ive never seen a kit for the ZC, it pretty much has to be pieced together. check out http://www.homemadeturbo.com/ and http://www.thezcr.com/indexbak.php
Lots of good info on there, as for the cost of the all motor route if you want decent stuff for i/h/e cams and gears it will run you about 800-1200 depending on what you get etc. That will get you into the 160 range at the crank depending on what you get and what stage cams etc, the turbo route can have you around 180 with a little tuning, so throw in the gears at least. Keep in mind the stock ZC rods are good for only around 200hp. Which for a guy on a budget is perfect.

The Greddy turbo kit for the D16z6 (92-95 civic si) was acually made for the DOHC ZC motor in Japan. When they brought it here the redsigned the charge pipes and the mani a little. To mod this kit to work is really simple, look for ZC TURBO on the net and youll find lots of info on how to do it.
You can build a NA ZC, but the motor seems to respond better to turbo set ups, probally due to the fact that the ZC has fairly large ports for a 1.6. But you can do anything if you really wanna spend the money, but an all motor ZC probally isnt worth the cash, unless thats the project you have your heart set on. There is a guy named Seth who is finishing his NA ZC who is on this board. Also a guy named Bryson who is on this board who I belive is building one as well. Ask them for there info about the set up.

Rev Hard did make a turbo kit for a CRX w/a ZC in it, but the kit has a tubular manifold and your CRX cannot have A/C at all. So just depends how bad you want A/C in your car.
Because i'm from europe,i don't have to wory about the A/C.You can't get it anyways.
I'll have to pul the engine apart anyway,so what would you suggest?Should i replace yust the rods or also the pistons?I was thinking of getting both,so my mind wasn't set to go with high compression for N/A or to pick something up for the turbo setup.I mean low compression.

if you are gonna tear it apart anyway then you may as well get new pistons, rods, and probably cams, if you can find a valve train kit then get it- all of that + boost & you'd have a fun little ZC
You're saying that i should get cams+boost???Does that mean that you can get turbo cams for the ZC?
Do i need to upgrade my valvetrain if i boost??

wouldn't crower, or one of the other manufacturer's have turbo cam spec's for the d16a1? b/c if you could send in ZC cams & have them reground for turbo spec's that would be significantly cheaper than HKS........
I couldnt find the website in my mail but Ill try again-until then heres a documented turbo install on a ZC CRX using the greddy kit-enjoy-

OK-heres the email address to ZCbros...in the email-please say Robb aka MixdCrix from honda-tech.com sent ya....and ask for Brett

Brett told me they don't make valvesprings for the zc anymore, as the demand was down, causing the cost of them making them more than was worth for the springs.
I had a lot of fun w/ my Greddy SOHC (TD04H) turbo thrown on my ZC. The low CR of the ZC helps w/ the boost a lot. 8psi daily, 9psi track ran good w/ DSM injectors and a SMC. Best time was 14.5@like 98 I think @ 6psi, no tuning, on a 12.1 FMU running lean as hell. Never got a good run w/ the fuel setup and 9psi. It was in the 13's easy though with some decent tires.

If u want pics, let me know. I've got all kinds of pics of the turbo setup and will post them if u guys want.

Well hello all, I am the owner of ZC Brothers Racing, If you have any questions, feel free to email me. Yes, the site is down....again, been busy as hell and and am slowly redoing the page(kinda like place racing did
) and going to get a less confusing domain name. But anyway, since i no longer have the old domain name, my email for the time being is zcbrothersracing@hotmail.com , and we still make cams. Nice to see our names still out there.
