Ep/RSXer's (in SoCal) need to start watching out. The cops almost in every city I have seen are pulling over cars left and right. The state is needing money really bad. So each city is doing a major crack down on the imports. They are pulling people over and having them pop their hoods. CARB certification numbers dont exempt you from getting a ticket for modified intake or for a header. I was going tonight to check out the Ontario races. Man, I turned back around!! The cops had a lowered Civic just barely getting onto the freeway. They had his hood popped and they were inspecting his exhaust. I even heard that they are pulling people over and giving tickets for having some on your rearview mirror. How petty is that?? Anyway, I dont want to waste a lot of your guys time. Just a warning!!!

i got pulled over for having my school parking permit hanging on my rear view mirror. When I asked what I did wrong, the officer said the school parking permit was an obstruction of view. HUR?!?! Jeez, and they say they don't have a quota to meet every month. Just strange how they spotted my school permit hanging there while I was passing by. Oh, and a carb number doesn't do crap.....modification of original equipment is still a violation. but wait.....these big block v8's do not even have their smog tested. If we can't have our cars with modifications that follow state regulations, then these cars should definately be outlawed!!!!!!!

 

i think its stupid that they get you for having something hanging from ur rear view mirror. why dont they stop all the handicapped people that hang that thing when they drive?

I've heard some retarded stories, too. My friend got pulled over for having his fog lights on because the cop said you can't have them on when there's no fog. Cop said that they're a distraction to other drivers... just because they're yellow.

Then he went and said his car can't have any modification what-so-ever... can't even lower it. Can't even have a K&N drop in filter.

Can't have a modified muffler that is nowhere near California's decibal limit law.

Then the cop says his custom license plate he got from the DMV was vulgar... "GRN DMN" saying Green Damn when it actually means Green Demon.

Dumbest cop ever. San Jose cops have a bad reputation. This is just another example

I got pulled over for my college hang tag too. They would not tell me why they pulled me over and they decided to search my car. Then they lie to my girlfriend and say that I said that she has drugs. I wanted to kill the bastards. Well, I had no drugs so they didnt find any. After that they tell me why they pulled me over and said I have to take it off. This was all at about 5am on the parkway.

The best thing you can do is be informed about the CA Vehicle Code, especially division 12 (Equipment of Vehicles). I use the online version http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/vc/vctoc.htm, but I think you can buy it in book form at the DMV. If your car is legal and you can prove it you should have no problems... as long as your not an *** about it.

example:
Material Obstructing or Reducing Driver's View

26708. (a) (1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows.

(2) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied in or upon the vehicle which obstructs or reduces the driver's clear view through the windshield or side windows.

(3) This subdivision applies to a person driving a motor vehicle with the driver's clear vision through the windshield, or side or rear windows, obstructed by snow or ice.

(b) This section does not apply to any of the following:

(1) Rearview mirrors.

(2) Adjustable nontransparent sunvisors which are mounted forward of the side windows and are not attached to the glass.

NOTE: It would seem the the officer stopped you for failing 26708(a)2, but if you keep reading 26708(b)1 says rearview mirrors are excluded (but what about the stuff hanging from them?). Why not have the officer explain it for you seeing that it is written so confusingly...
