on 94-97 models, there isn't enough room for the HID ballast on the passenger side because of the larger ABS unit. the 98-01 models have a smaller ABS unit, so it has no problems there. some guys just pushed back their ABS unit a bit on the 94-97 models to squeeze the ballast there. tight fit, but it works. ask CanuckMX6 I think

the housing is completely different. The HID housing takes a D2S bulb, and the ballast fits at the back of the housing and seals it. For the non hid housing, the bulb required is a 9006, so if you want to use HID, you have to use a D2S bulb modified to fit 9006.

The project of the HID housing gives a more even spread of light so there is no hot spots of light directly infront of the car. It also has that bluish-white colour shift that the non HID projectors do not have.

Here is a pic of the outside of the HID housing, notice how the lines do not go all the way across the projector.

The lights are fully warmed up in all the pictures

the D2S bulb has a wire retainer, similar to what you would find holding an H3 bulb in a foglight. the 9006 has locking tabs, so when you insert it, you have to turn the bulb.

You will need a set of D2S capsules with bases that have been specifically molded to fit a 9006 halogen socket.
