Default vafc dyno results

i was a little upset with the baseline dyno, 169.9 whp. it was my understanding that a stock prelude should put down 170 to the wheels. i have I/H/E and i found out i had a dinan ecu while installing the vafc. the car has 120k miles on it so i know that wear and tear play a part in it. but i was expecting a little higher on the baseline run. (BTW when i bought the car in feb. i did a tune-up, pretty much everything except plug wires)

well my question is..... they made 6 hp tuning the vafc. i got an hour of time on the dyno (talked them down to a 100). its a reputable shop, they've been in super street, vw trends, etc. for VW's (they're specialty) but also do great work on hondas. anyway, is 6hp good for tuning a vafc? i know with cam gears, cams, fuel delivery i would gain more, but should i be pleased with this for the mods i have?

The V-AFC doesn't gain a lot of peak power. It will gain you a little, but not all that much. The main purpose of the V-AFC is to lower the VTEC crossover so that you gain 13-15 whp approx during that 4800-5200 RPM area.

My bone stock SH went from 161 to 164 after 3 pulls of tuning the vafc. Cost me only 30 bucks. The biggest difference was at the x-over pt.

the car pulls a little harder and it feels a lot smoother through the power band. i'm pleased with the results for the money(325 total for vafc and dyno time) but i guess i expected a little more out of an hour of dyno time.

I read just fine dude, I wasn't referring to what you replied, I was referring to what he asked. He asked if you felt a difference: well the dyno proved that there indeed was one, a definite recorded increase in hp. But "feeling" something is always subjective; hell my car "felt" faster after I tinted my windows.

Unless it's a handling question, feelings, in regards to acceleration at least, are not objective scientific measures of positive change. Therefore, if we're not talking about a braking/suspension mod, "feelings", in my book anyway, are all classified under butt-dynos.

Most stock 5th gens are pretty much right at 160whp. Give or take a couple.
