When you dump your bike?
I'm looking at picking up a bike, but i know that I"m an idiot and that I will eventually drop the bike. How much does it hurt? And what's the fastest you've come off?

hmm you might want to ask GeorgiaJDM this question
j/k
it all depends how fast you're going and how you land. Leathers/textiles can protect you from getting scraped up and to a certain extent, bruises, but will not protect you from any broken bones. Also depends on what you're wearing- even a standing dump is gonna hurt you if you're wearing only a tshirt and shorts. I went down at about 20mph and it didn't hurt much, just a little on my leg where my bike fell
Although I was riding with shorts one time (
me ) and I accidentally brushed my leg against my exhaust pipe. That hurt a lot.

thanks man...
It hurts a lot when you try to keep the bike up with your leg and the bike comes down anyway with the peg drilling you in you foot. I had a really weak lowside at 5 mph and i'm still gimping after two weeks. The wound in my foot is still wet and pussing after two week. Road rash burns like hell in the shower. If i ever ride again it'll be with full leathers and some nice boots, i was wearing some adidas running shoes and got jacked when i hit the gravel, I was picking rocks out of my flesh wounds for like 2-3 minutes.
Going down will always hurt your confidence and ego... i don't really have the ***** to ride right now, can't afford to get hurt again. Haven't been to the gym in two weeks and it's killing me. If i ever ride again it'll be only be on track days, too many variables on the streets that can kill you, who knows though, i could be back up in a couple months riding on the streets, only time will tell.

It can hurt enough to kill and/or paralyse you, think about what you are saying and be serious about it.

no **** I am, which is why I'm asking people about their experince with it.
I only have 2 bikes to learn on a both 2001 models 600f4i and a Hayabusa.
You can guess why I'm intrested to know how much it hurts to dump the bike since I'm sure I'll dump it during my first few months of riding.

what do you mean you "only have 2 bikes to learn on"? go out and buy yourself a beater bike for like $1-2k... and what about the MSF course?

I will be taking the MSF course. Actually I won't be riding or even practicing until after I take the course.
As of now I don't have the extra money to buy a "learners" bike so I'm just gonna hafta take it easy on these 2 larger bikes.
The CBRf4i is my good friends bike, and the busa will be mine after I pick it up next week. I know the Busa isn't recomend at all for a beginers bike but for the price I'm getting it at its very hard to pass up.

sorry to be corny but be careful, the price you pay may actually be your life... good luck and have fun
but if you ask me, I seriously think you should reconsider getting a 'busa... hell that thing almost has as big of an engine as the one in my Integra.

I managed to stand up from a 120ish. All I can say is
Dainese and
Shoei. Dressing up like a power ranger really makes a difference. As for the busa, I hope its a decision you live to regret as opposed to well you know... The f4i wouldn't be bad for learning on. My buddy started on one w/ no experience and never dropped it. Course he doesn't ride too much and isn't a very avid rider. Let's just say I have the f4i now.

Got slammed into from behind at a stop sign by a car. Had texttile jacket, gloves, helmet, steel toe boots. A little road rash on my leg. Gloves/jacket helmet all helped.

You said everything you need to hear NOT to buy a bike. Stick to a cage.

lol....
guys, I just realized that we all make mistakes when we drive/ride. I know that I'm gonna make one during my learning process(i'm really not that dumb).
I think I might but the Busa at the super low price I found her for and sell her for a smaller bike.

good... no one should ever learn on that bike, let alone own one first some years they are riding...or ever. what super low price is this? is it a "hot" bike?

lol... no its not a "hot" bike, it has just been dropped like 5 times and has heavy cosmetic damage. The owner is young and wants to get rid of it (I guess his family is rich) The price to me sounds too good to be true, I'll report back to you guys on it when and if the deal is finalized.
Until then keep the stories coming

Yeah It was probably his first bike too. He probably didn't realize that is had like 160 - 170 horsepower till he dropped it 3 or 4 times either. He probably realized that he would get himself killed on a bike with that much power so he is selling it (to you) so he can buy a smaller bike to learn on. Either that or the bike scared his will to ride right out of him and he is going to walk everwhere from now on. Seriously, I would NOT buy this as your first bike regardless of the price. Look at that guys situation if you need justification of how this is not a starter bike.
I fell once doing about 50 and slid right though and intersection (3 lanes of traffic both ways... it was a big intersection.) God bless the lady in the Accord who was paying attenting and slammed on her brakes instead of rolling right over me. I'm glad she wasn't on a damn cell phone or I'd be a bit thinner/flatter today.
Just be careful and start slow (even small bikes go FAST)
