So today I'm heading out to take my bent wheels (from Detroit potholes) to a place to have them repaired. I'm thinking how nice it'll be to have my wheels back on the car so I head onto the freeway and start merging into traffic. I go to pass a bus in the slowlane and as I'm midway into the center lane I see a big brown trash bag on the lane divider last minute. I didn't have enough time to swerve out of the way so boom, it hits the car and as I look in my mirror to see if it caught or blew out from underneath I see a **** load of debri fly out from the back. I'm thinking, "****!" So I head up to the next offramp and pull into the Mobil station.

I notice the bag is dragging on the front bumper so I pull it off and find that its full of the foam that people use to garden (or something like it). After pulling it off I notice that my bumper is cracked in the grill area. Once again I'm thinking, "****!" So I go into the gas station to by a pack of smokes since I'm all pissed off now and as I'm walking out I notice that the car is leaking something. At first I just thought that it was the A/C since its about 85 degrees here today, but upon closer inspection I notice it's green. Damn! I look again at the grill and notice that the A/C condenser is dented in pretty nicely.... obviously it hit the radiator also. So I get home and pull the bumper off to inspect a little closer, here is the damage....

call DOT and see if there's someone there u could bitch at. in florida there's people assigned to get debris off the roadway. at least u made it out ok.

Well, I tried calling DOT, but of course their office closes at 4pm EST. I left a message but I highly doubt I'll hear back from them or get any money since it was road debri and not a huge *** pothole. I'll try again on Monday though.

Good news is.... this gives me a good reason to upgrade the radiator to the Spoon Street radiator which is 15mm larger than the stock Denso unit. I'm also thinking about ordering the JDM front and rear bumpers with the Type R lips (probably a waste of money, but these cars need all they can get to look good ). If anyone knows of some really cheap prices for these pieces please let me know asap. Thanks!

 

I'm actually waiting for AJ-Racing to email me back with the price for the Street Radiator, but if anyone knows the price off hand I'd appreciate it so I can order this stuff up today. Thanks!

the OEM radiators still have plastic tanks?!?

Well hopefully at the very least you can get a OEM style one for $200 or so...maybe not since the car is relatively new.

 

How much is a Spoon radiator? How about a Fluidyne or Koyo radiator? They make nice stuff. I also heard great things about C&R radiators.. Sorry about your bad luck. I'd definitely keep calling the DOT until you speak with someone. Good luck..

 

It turned out that I went with the OEM Denso for right now after tallying up all the parts I'll need. I didn't want to go and spend another $400 if I didn't have to. I went through http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com and paid $217 for it. Not too bad of a price. Among other things I ordered a new front bumper from them for $160 (unpainted). How much does it cost to have a bumper repainted NBP? Because I'm wondering if it'll just be cheaper to get a factory painted JDM bumper and bumper support. If anyone can enlighten me before Monday I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

 

I paid 340 for my Fluidyne Radatior.. off ebay. I had a stick go half way threw mine. sucked *** but thats the only thing that happened.

is the Rad broken? it just look bent. Is it leaking/cracked? If not fk unless your car runs hot.

The radiator is cracked and it leaked all the fluid, same with the condensor. The parts are ordered and everything will be poifect early next week hopefully!

actually, my AC condenser is also bent but not as bad as yours....i hit one of those big pieces of truck tire on the freewat one night...

 

I hate that! I don't understand why there is always debri laying in the freeway, especially here in the midwest. I don't ever remember there being much of anything laying in the road when I lived in California.

 

Welcome to the club bro. I had a worse 2 day event a while back.

I had a cf hood and cf lip.

Thursday: I'm at the mall and someone backs into me while im inside and leaves. Next mornging I am about to leave for school and notice that my front bumper is scratched bad and my CF hood was cracked.

Friday: As me and my gf are coming home from dinner, some idiot in a pontiac cuts me off and flings busted tire skin at my car. It smacks the front of the car smashes my CF lip and gets caught under my car. I nearly lose control of the car.

Called the City and they screwed me. Said it was" normal road hazard".. Bastards. Oh well **** happens and then you move on. Good luck bro.

 

That sounds pretty shitty too. I had to deal with that when my car was only 3 weeks old. Oh and my Prelude too. Two hit and runs and then some A-hole ended up totalling it.

 

that sucks. I have a friend with an 03 S2K and the day she took the car home, A ladder falls off a truck.....damage:

huge crack on front bumper, splash guard ripped out, gas tank Punctured

Figures..... http://www.hondautomotiveparts.com emailed today saying that they took the front bumper off the shipping list because it would be "too difficult to ship." They said that they were worried about it breaking during shipping and hoped that I didn't mind. Well I do.

Does anyone know a place to get the JDM bumper (not the lip) for a good price? Thanks

 

yikes. sorry to hear about the damage. and watchout for pieces of carpet insulation flying around. that chit messed up the paint on my front bumper.
