Default swapping a B16a2 shortblock for B18C1 one

If the B18 shortblock is an OBDI, what problems will that cause? Would I have to chip my OBDII ecu or replace it entirely with a OBDI? Is this an easy swap?

if i am correct the block isnt obd1, that is in reference to the ecu and the wiring of the car. a b18 block is a b18 block. there is very little to no difference b/w them. someone please feel free to correct me if im wrong or elaborate on what ive said

so everything, electrical wiring, should all be the same?

No OBD is not a reference to the ECU. OBD is not just wiring. A B18 block is not a B18 block. They differ internally. Different bore, stroke, etc.

Just put the block on your head. Thats all that needs to be done I am running a built jdm b16 obd1 block. It doesnt matter its all electrical. If you were doing a different head like an obd1 head on your car you might have some issues. Your cool is what im saying.

hold up, now im a little confused. i didnt quite read your post right the first time. i believe that it should be just a straight swap. you shouldnt have to change to obd2. once again someone feel free to correct me or add anything.

this is not the issue he is having. He probably could give a **** less about all that othe stuff. he just wants to know if it will work. and yes it will bolt right on unless its not a vtec block and then he will only have to do some minor machine work.

i think you mis-understood his statement. the internal aspects of a block have nothing to do with the electrical components. OBD is a refference to the ECU and wiring, the year of the block wont affect the ECU or any other electrical components in any way. however, if he was swapping out his OBD2 head for an OBD1, he would have to replace the injectors and distributor with those of an OBD2 car, probably along with some wiring. correct me if i'm wrong.

on another note, every B-series block, except the B20, has the same 80mm bore, B16, B17, B18, etc...

EDIT: 81mm bore, my bad.

the block is a b18c1 but it's a 96 model and my car is a 00 Si. Take the head off my block and put it on the 96 1b8c1 and I'm done...trying to keep it simple. No other issues to be worried about?

Yes.

All you are doing is putting a VTEC head on a block that is pretty much the same as your current block, just different bores and internals. Many people have done this same thing to create a poor man's type-r.

Your plans should not present a problem as 96 is OBD-2. If it were truly an OBD1 block you would need to swap in the crankspeed fluctuation sensor which *I hear* is a pain in the ***.
