Default Proportioning valve- 40/40 anyone done a before and after??

Has anyone changed from a 30/30 to a 40/40 with any kind of improvement?

This would be done on a car that just got upgraded to Integra Discs all around. Already have the booster/master cylinder but front locks up pretty quick--ok?

I did the teg/CRX rear disks on mine with the fastbrake 11"/oem caliper fronts. Went to the 90-91 15/16" EX MC and did the 4040 valve. Brakes are just awsome. Put 80 miles on it out at Holtville which is very hard on brakes and it didn't fade even once. Carbomet front pads, raybestos (they were still good when I got them) rears. This is on a 90 CRX DX

From what I've been told, Honda's don't use front to rear bias proportioning valves. They work diagonally and just separate the front left and right rear from the front right and left. The brake bias is based on pad compound, caliper size, and rotor size.

If this is a 5th gen Civic with a 3rd gen Integra disc swap, I think that you want the 30/40 valve (40/40). That is what I used on my car. I initially did the same swap without the pro. valve. While I did get improved braking, I experienced too much front brake bias. I changed out to the 30/40 (IIRC- not home to actually check it) which is the same one used on the 5th gen Civic Si, which is a disc/disc car. FYI, that car has the same brakes/rotors f & r as the 94-00 Integra. Braking improved once again.

Check out hybrid.honda.com for a complete story.

Exactly the case, I need the 40/40. It works without but the fronts lock up too quickly right now. The 40/40 should change the flow of brake bias to the rear a tad bit more....most junkyards don't keep track of this valve either-I called many

What is the 30/40 or 40/40 you are discussing, what do thiose number means and where do they come from? I have done some brake swapping and conversions over the years and need to put a new adjustable prop valve in the racecar but am not sure of the terminology used.

30/40 and 40/40 are the stampings on the factory prop valves from various Teg/Civic models. I don't recall which went with what brake combo.

From what I understand
30/30-cx,vx,dx,etc...with 9.5 disc in front and drums in rear
30/40-??someone said from a 2dr ex with 10 disc in front
40/40-is from Integra's with disc all around, they come ABS and without ABS too

I know this is an old post.....but someone might lookin for.
I have civic EG 92 4 door sedan with D16Y8 M/T power plant form 97 EK.
Have rear disk brake swap for about a yaer with 3030 prop. (front brake still OEM)
It work well on dry road but on wet it kindda wheel lock and make a car slip/fade/slide depend on how wet how fast and how sudden breakin.
With 3030 it feel abit distance of the paddle and then stop dead (that might make it feel good on dry)
Last week I change to 4040. It diff feeling, it feel every inch the paddle travel it incresing brake power and then stop.
But on really hard bake it still show abit wheels lock.....of course not often as 3030

I raced my first 2 seasons with rear discs and a rear drum prop valve on my crx. for season 3, I installed the correct prop valve. I went from 1:13 laps to 1:10 laps consistently, with no other changes (didn't even change the oil between seasons heh)
I think the drum valve was causing too much rear braking, making the car unstable

This was on an ITA crx Si

Swap the proportioning valve. Without it, the rear calipers won't get enough fluid, and they'll do essentially nothing (not that they really do that much in the first place ). We have swapped the proportioning valves in every Civic that we have done a rear disc conversion on.

Actually, no . . . only the 1994 Si with optional ABS had 10.3" fronts (with same calipers as 3rd-gen Integra), discs in the rear, and a 15/16" master cylinder.

All other '92-95 Si hatches - including the 1994 Si without ABS - had 9.5" fronts (with same calipers as the non-Si hatchbacks), discs in the rear, and a 13/16" master cylinder.
