your right about the ZX12R being the fastest 1/4 mile bike..........the BUSA as far as i know is still the fastest MPH bike..........but you are wrong about the R1....it is so underpowerd for its class.....

ZX-12R and the Busa are the 1/4 mile and top speed kings.
The GSXR1000 is close behind. Yes, I know what the magazines have in their stats lists. I've never seen a same day, same track kinda test with the Busa and 12. Each magazine has something different anyway. One says the 1000 is faster, another says the 12 is faster. Another test just had the Busa being faster than the 12. Basically it's going to come down to rider, and the 1000 is not an easy bike to launch at all. Top end, it's not even close.
I'd guess the R1 and 954 were up there as well. The ZZR1200 actually has the beans to stick with the R1 and 954 as well.

I'd have to disagree there. In the "street" drag races I've seen between the two the Busa has almost always won.
The new motorcyclist magazine just did a comparison of the two with a top notch drag racer running BOTH bikes against himself and came out on top every time with the Busa.

What I've seen is that the two bikes are so closely matched in the 1/4 mile that is all comes down the rider. Being that I HAVE a ZX-12R, I tend to see and hang out with people who have them, and race them. Busas probably out sell the 12R 5 or 6:1. Roll ons with equal riders and the 12 will pull away pretty good at about 120-130mph.
There is more aftermarket support for the Busa. It's a great bike, albeit a tad on the ugly side, lol, but a great bike.
As for the magazines, every magazine reports something different. The motorcyclist article has been talked about since it came out. There are arguments on both sides of the fence, and had the 12 come out on top, the arguments would be reversed.
1. Keith Dennis is a great rider, but he races Busas, not 12s. So he's obviously more comfortable, and spent more time on a Busa.
2. Had Rickey Gadson been the rider, more than likely the 12R woulda won, and we'd hear argument #1 from the Busa camp.
3. Busas generally ET better than the 12R. 12Rs tend to trap higher. I see this on the highway, and at the track.
4. Magazine racing is for bench racing ricers.... take it to the track yourselves, and find out what's up

One more thing...
Stock for stock: 12s tend to make more hp than a Busa (higher revs). Busas make more torque (bigger motor).
12s respond better to your normal bolt ons. Pipe, PC3, etc...
Busas respond better than the 12 when you go into the motor.
So for a bolt on type bike, the 12 has the advantage. For extreme stuff, the Busas have it outright.
All this is my opinion after having spent time with both the 12 camp and the Busa camp.

Not sure who called it underpowered. However, I will say that I've never seen a stock R1 dyno 140rwhp. 130-135rwhp seems to be the norm.
It's not underpowered for what it is, but there are 3 bikes with more power. Whatever "class" it's in doesn't matter on the street or at the drag strip. Classes matter in road course racing, which is also where the R1 shines.

Agreed, also magazine times and real rider times tend to vary greatly

this sucks. i want a hayabusa cause it looks like a comfortable GT sportbike (i am big), but now my odds of getting one at a reasonable price are shot since its the top speed king and now the 1/4 drag king. (barely.)

On average, you add about .5s for the average Joe. I don't know about you but a mid 11s tiny 600cc sportbike is more than enough for me.

Same here
Theres been plenty of times where a 600cc has put my heart in my throat...Theres very few people who can ride a 600cc to its potential, much less anyting bigger
