Default Keep my CRV rims as track wheels or get something else?

I currently have an extra set of CRV rims that I have used to mount and extra set of tires on in the past. However they are heavier than the stock rims. I have been thinking about selling them and maybe picking up something lighter. Seems like I could get around $100 for them. Any opinions for a beginner? I really want to get my hands on a set of Millenia rims but I can't find any for sale.

how wide are the CRV rims?

Don't waste your time with skinny OEM stuff. Get a wheel that's at least 7" wide.

Someone is selling 15x7 K-1s out of FL with tires. look into that.

I did the same thing, I had CR-V steelies and then when I went to Millenias I couldnt believe the difference! Sell the CR-V wheels and buy my Millenias. IM me for details.

Absolutely zero offense intended... Based on that sentence above, and that alone, I think the money is better spent on seat time than on lighter wheels "for now". Learn to maximize what you've got, then worry about upgrading.

IMHO of course, others may disagree!

Millenias are only 15x6.

Right, I was speaking of the difference being that CRV steelies are 22lbs each and Millenias are ~11.5lbs ea.

there was a Millenia S in the junkyard near where I live (Elkton, MD) not too long ago.... all 4 wheels looked good, and the Miller Cycle supercharged motor looked good, too!

its called "Paradise Auto Salvage". mostly late model cars there; nice stuff.

Someone tell me, are you saying Mazda Millenia wheels are nifty? Are they punched steelies or alloys?

AA, for beginning, anything will work... and you can spend more money on event fees and such...

buuuut... those K1's + unused v700's in the classifieds look mighty tempting too (though I would start on street tires like Azenis before going to race tires for HPDE's)

Ben, who never really understood why people bring expensive race tires to HPDE's... it's not like that extra 3 seconds is going to win you anything. Except a hole in your pocket book

Yes, Mazda Millenias are lightweight 15x6 alloys that fit ITR perfectly.

Are they really 22lbs a piece! They feel heavier but not by that much. However my supremely accurate arm weighing system could be off.

Stupid me.

I took it as some allusion to the fact that wider wheels made a difference.

Yup, I was using the ones off my wife's 01, they were 22lbs here on the UPS scale.

There must be a reason why people use them, aside from cost.

Do they allow for favorable autox classing, or something? They are damn heavy.

Well they do allow you to stay in stock classes (you can run different wheels but they must be same size). Other than that, I guess just b/c they are cheap and readily availabe. Thats why I used them...

Compared to street tires other than azenis, you often save $$$ in the long run.... and if you plan on racing and have used r-tires for autox, then its really not a bad idea to get ised to them.

I guess it depends on what brand/type of street tires. I'm cheap and usually go for the low-buck Kumho 712's which run about $75 a pop
