currently i have a 98 gsr w/ only a Apex WS exhaust and a rim/tire combo that saves me 2lbs per corner. What mods should I get to get me into the 14s (high 14s since i do have a budget)? Let's assume i'm a decent driver I was interested in the ICEBOX and maybe some other things...what mods would u guys recommend?

CAI, either from AEM or Comptech.....

 

You could quite possibly get into the 14's now since you have ligher wheels and hopefully more traction. A good intake like the Icebox would almost certainly get you there, but with lots of practice.

 

yeah i hit 14.8 on my gsr with intake and header and toyo tires on my stockies....

but if u want 14's all day...i/h/e and suspension....all day long dude

 

Its easy. Just get AEM Cold Air Intake, or the Comptech Ice Box, and with your setup, you'll get into the 14's with good driving.

I know if I get better tires, I'll get into the 14's...

Drive it hard and you will get those times with intake and exhaust.

wow! i didn't know it would be so easy to get into the 14s

so does that mean i will be competitive with a stock WRX? according to Car and Driver, WRX runs about 14.7 or so. I'm really just trying to be able to hang with my buddy that just bought a WRX

When u guys say "drive it hard" what u mean? off the launch? what RPMs are u revving up to? 3K? 4K? Do u guys chirp from 1st to 2nd gear? should i chirp or not chirp?

Is it really necessary to get headers?

 

yeah, headers would be a good investment...

and i launch from 5k-5,500

 

I launched off the limiter once, too bad the tires I was using didn't take it, wheel spin through 1st and 2nd gear. I still ran a 14.2 under those conditions. Chirp every gear possible, as for me 1st, 2nd and part of 3rd.

$37 for a homemde intake.Unless you are concerned about having a shiny AEM My ITR went 14.19 with just that.And two friends with Gs-r's ran consistent 14's with just that.(they also pulled the interior out)

yeah i ment him at etown before...me and my friends gsr...was running 15's while he was running 14's i guess i believe him...i saw him race...and his launch was pretty good....his trap speed isn't that high soo he doesn't have alot of HP...but being stock motor...he can do other stuff like springs shocks...clutch slicks...anything without adding hp...
