Default Tapping Noise After Koni Install

I installed Koni Adjustable Struts on my ARR 2 weeks ago......First of all The rears such are a Pain in the *** to Adjust what a stupid design......I can't believe koni expects a person to take apart the whole rear suspension to adjust them........If i would have know that they were going to such a pain I would have not bought them on me! Anyway Well I left them on Soft because I couldn't figure out how to properly adj them by looking at the Pictures it came with.........Nice Directions Koni .......... after the install I can now hear a taping noise coming from the rear struts.......I checked the top bolts so far and it feels to be pretty tight. I haven't had time to check everything else. I don't hear that noise after every bump i hit just on stop and go and a lot when I'm pulling into or out of my driveway. It does make that annoying sound on bumps but not all the time. Did anyone else have this problem......What should i check for? Thanks in advance!

did you cut the bumpstops?

to adjust the shock you must push it in all the way and then rotate. you'll know you've got it becuase you'll feel it engage when you push in and turn.

as for adjustable ots konis for the TypeR...they are out there. I ordered these by accident (Special D)

How much did you have to cut the bump stops..........??? I don't think i needed to cut mine because the instructions for the nuespeed springs said not to cut them.

Try tightening them at the top. When you install stuts, they settle a little and need to be tightened periodically. Might not be your problem but could be.

Oh Great.......the sound is getting worse........I don't even know where to begin to troubleshoot the problem........I checked the top two bolts as well as all the others.......It seems as though it sounds like a metal poping noise.......Its really annoying........Can someone Please help.......I called a couple of places to have them look at it.......but they don't want to touch it because its an aftermarket struts and springs...........Anyone in North Jersey.........I'm willing to pay someone to fix this for me.........HELP!!!!!!!!

I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After replacing the Koni's with another set I still have the same noise..........I went for a ride again this time I was sittin in the trunk and heard it coming from the hatch! I was like No way....I pulled over opened up the hatch and put my sneaker in between the hatch and car and didn't hear the poping noise at all. I got home and used a little Honda Grease and lubed up the latch and BoYAA No more sound!!!!!!!!!
What a Pain in the ***.....who what of thought that the latch would start making that noise as soon as i swapped out my rear koni's..........I'm just glad its over with now and I can finally get a good nights sleep. Just thought I would share what I found just in case you guys get that same noise and start ripping your cars apart to find out where that noise is coming from

I wonder why you got the older-style rear shocks. The newer ones for the Type R adjust from the top.

I just picked up a set from stranoparts.com with upper external adjustments. For the street I am running full soft all-around. For auto-x full stiff in the rear and 1 turn from soft in the front.

Glad you fixed your problem.

i actually called up koni yesterday while installing the rear koni's on my '88 civic (whose struts have the same PN as ITR's) and he said that like two months ago they came out w/ externally adj. rears for the '88 civic and ITR. he said that word hasn't gotten out to most companys that carry their products, that's why most people are still saying that they don't make them like that. But if you're looking to get some, call up koni.

however, he said they're a bit more, not sure how much. it might be cheaper (in the long run) just to get the old style and have them sent off to get revalved, shortend, and made externally adj.

they are a little more. I believe the Neuspeed version is also externally adjustable.

the externally adjustable ones pictured above were ordered from Shox.com (my current supplier).
