what kind of struts would you guys suggest for a slammed car? i am looking for new struts but i dont want to spend a lot of money if it ends up blowing out. i have proactive coilovers on, but the perch seized up on me and now i cant adjust it so i need some struts that wont blow on slammed cars. TIA
no matter what struts you end up going with, you'll still have the huge gap between the spring and the top perch, which will give the car ZERO suspension travel and ZERO ride comfort.....
if you are looking for an affordable alternative, just go with some GC coilovers, or with some used eibach sportlines (2.5" drop) and some affordable KYB gr-2 struts
i'm using GC coilovers on GR2's, and it has plenty of travel at 2" drop, plus it allows for better handling as well
if you're still stuck on having a 3-4" drop, then go with some AGX's i guess......i wouldnt recommend it though

cool thanks...anybody else got opinions....also, who makes strut mounts that will allow more strut travel. i seen a DIY on it but i'd rather buy from a company who made it just in case the weld gives out and then ill have two holes on my hood. TIA

not many shocks will take a slammed car... AGX's might take it.. or you could talk to a shock/strut company and get some custom ones made up and actually still ahve a warrantee, however that will cost some serious $$$

AGXs have little marks on the shock piston that the techs at KYB can inspect and see how low you were. That's what I've been TOLD anyway.
If you're going to be 3.5-4"+ lowered, any shock is going to bottom out, even if you have HIGH HIGH spring rates, you just can't be that low on the street and not have that happen. All shocks will die after you bottom them out too much; Koni, AGX, or whatever it is.
Best thing you could do is get shortened struts and higher mounts but then you'll be hitting your fender with your tire and run into clearance problems because you can only shorten and highten the mounts so much.
Just roll on stock shocks if you're gonna be slammed and daily drive it or you're going to be wasting a lot of money.

On my old 89 Honda Civic DX...
I had it dumped on R1 Crappy Coilovers and Koni Reds..total drop was 3 inches front and rear...
The ride quality was decent but not smooth, it looked good....then the passenger side axel snapped and motor blew so I sold the car
So in conclusion I would go with Koni Reds, I paid $580 cdn and $200 for the R1 coilovers..

get the ground control upper pillow mounts, the increase strut travel, they should work with whatever struts you decide to go with.

I don't know what others will say but in my case, I'm using Koni reds.. a little bitchy to adjust them but those are doing good so far and they're pretty cheap...
it's been almost 3 years driving everyday even in winter slammed(3.5")...
Not one blew.. I'm happy with them..
