Buddy Club Spec 3 - Review and Pics
Install: The install was fairly straight forward, got the exhaust shop to use a JDM size cat, about 12" long. However the exhaust shop screwed up big time, they used an oxy torch and heated up the exhaust hangers so they could bend it away from the bumper, when all that was really needed was to move the exhaust bracket along the muffler
The tip does stick out a bit, from the pics below you can see how much it sticks out. It also does exit at an angle, but would have been angled less if it wasnt for the exhaust shop. Whole system would of bolted up perfectly if it wasn't for the exhaust shop stuffing up
I fixed it up as best as I could when I got home, so now nothing is rubbing, using the lower exhaust hanger on the right side. Some paint had already melted off, nothing major.
Impression: On the way home from the exhaust shop, put the silencer in, didn't want to get pulled over by the cops (here in Australia the cops can pull you over and defect you for having too loud an exhaust). After a few blocks the silencer started to rattle, and I knew the silencer was about to pop out, because I had heard this had happened to a few people before, but before I could stop the silencer popped out, no one behind me luckily. I went to go pick it up, but picked it up at the hottest part
Got a slight burn on my fingers
Anyway with the silencer in, feels and sounds almost like stock at low revs. From mid-range to high revs you can feel that the exhaust is almost choking because of the silencer, and it sounds a bit like a motorbike, hard to explain. But with the silencer in its good for driving around town, good torque down low.
Before I tried driving with the silencer off, I knew that there would be rattling because of the spring connectors, so I went and bought some exhaust wrap and wrapped it around the spring connectors. Once this was done, finally got to try the exhaust without the silencer in. First, revving in idle. Very deep sound, loud as well, only revving to 2500rpm. Starts to sound very race-car-ish when you rev it higher than that. Time to go for a drive. Two of my friends were over, so they decided to come along for a ride. Warming the car up, in start-stop driving, could feel a slight loss in bottom end torque, you have to push the accelerator a little bit harder . Once the car was warmed up, decided it was time to give it some stick.... all I can say is WOW!!!
From about 5000rpm it really starts to pull, then when you hit VTEC, you can really feel a big difference from stock, it pulls like crazy, revs much quicker and this was with 3 people in the car. As for the sound, I used to have Spoon N1 axleback bolted on to stock b-pipe before, and this exhaust is much much louder, throughout the whole rev range. It would really be up to the person to decide whether its too loud, at the moment I usually drive with the silencer in because worried about the cops pulling me over, but every now and then I take it out and let her rip
Summary: Nice quality exhaust, very light. Good torque down low but poor top end with silencer in, excellent top end but low speed torque is average with silencer out.
