Default Attention!!!! B18A/B owners.....

If you have an LS and are 1/4 miles, do yourself a favor and get a B16 tranny!! The gearing is so short, that it keeps me in the power range in just about every gear. The only downside is going 80mph on the freeway in 5th will put you at 4600 RPM and your mpg will suffer, but who cares this thing is finally getting waaay fast

B16 gears may be a little to short............that's why i'm going for a GS-R tranny instead..

Hey, what about the B18C1

I now have a USDM ITR tranny with KAAZ LSD, ACT clutch, Spoon flywheel, and JDM FD. Car now feels like it has mad TQ, even from 3000 rpm. Soooo sweet.

As I've stated many times, gearing is a wonderful mod for our TQ decifient motors...

Take care,

Nice Halo...so the differance is really noticable? What size tires are you using also?
Have you had a chance to run before and after at the track?

I was condiering the B16 tranny but I think its too short...with my 205/40-16s 4th gear will top out at 96 MPH! That really sucks..if I get into any race over 96MPH Ill get crushed since Ill have to use 5th..and who the hell wants to race in 5th gear?
Also...if I end up pulling trap speeds over 96 MPH in the quarter mile..Ill have to go to 5th..and that will NOT help my times.

A GSR tranny with my tires will go to about 104 MPH in 4th...not that much better...but still 8 MPH counts. I will be going with the GSR tranny I think.

Haven't gone to the track yet Hx_Guy, but *YES* *YES* *YES* the B16 tranny is very noticeable especially with the 6 puck kevlar racing clutch. I have had a grin on my face all day. I launched at 2k rpm this morning and I swear within a second I am at redline, I love this tranny sooooooooooo much cause it keeps me in the powerband at all times. The Si tranny is a ITR tranny minus the LSD. It is so nice not having to shift aimlessly looking for power like I use to have to do with the LS gears. My confidence at the red light has gone up 200%

Oh yeah........ at freeway speeds for me to take off quicky I had to do a 5 to 3 shift to keep me above 6500 rpm where my power is, the B16 tranny takes off in fifth without ever having to shift. If you get this tranny raise the RPM limiter to 8500 you will need it

Sounds sweet man..I know the feeling. I swapped an EX tranny in place of my HX tranny back in the da..and oh damn! Night and day...shaved .5 in my quarter mile also..I loved it.

What are you opinions on the GSR tranny? Probably not as great of an improvment..but I msure it is better the the crappy LS tranny.

If you get this tranny raise the RPM limiter to 8500 you will need it
Thats right...I forgot you have a higher revlimit..so you can carry out 3rd and 4th much longer than I can.

Actually I don't know enough about the B18C tranny to pass any judgement. I do know they are longer than either the ITR or Si, but by exactly how much I can't say. A guy I know in San Diego I know is running his basically stock LS with a B16 tranny and for the year he has had it, there have been no problems. Since you have a Crower valvetrain I wouldn't worry, you should be fine. If you are ever in So Cal, email me for my phone # and you are welcome to drive my car as much as you want to get an idea.

sounds very nice but in the long run your gonna **** up your engine just like my cuzin did, he did the LS with a b16 tranny and his engine couldn't take it and it blew engine only had 36k on it, but maybe you check on build your engine for the tranny. GOOD LUCK!!!

Damn...with that size tire...did you know your Final Drive is actually 4.59 instead of the 4.40 (with stock tires).

B16 tranny isn't necessary a bad choice, but you really have to match the tranny with the engine you have or built. With what Halo has built on his engine, it is a good choice, but for a stock LS bottom-end, it will not be a good choice.

Like Berkel says, gearing does wonder for our torque-deficient motor.

Having an ITR tranny w/ 4.785 FD in my modified LS motor with only 144 whp and 120 wtq, I was able to hold my speed from 120 - 200 km/h (which is my max. speed) on 5th gear from my friend's ITR w/ AEM with him having to downshift to 4th for the same pull then upshift to 5th. He did eventually caught up to the side and pass me after 200, but I was already satisfied.

Peace,
Tommy

I changed my tranny this week for a Y80(GSR). Its make a big difference on acceleration !! I have 205/40/r17. I go to the track tomorrow to test it I expect under 15 sec 1/4 miles. The speedo at 100 km/h(62 mph) 3200 rpm... at 130 km/h its about 4250 !! This winter I will swap out the 5th gear on my Y80 to take my 5th gear LS back on. The B16 tranny are a little bit to short for my B18B1 engine on the highway. I will give you feedback from the track next monday.
