Default swap, tranny questions

my friend wants to put a b18b in his civic hatch. he says he wants to put in an ek si tranny. what's the benefit to this? i'm just curious, that's all. wouldn't the stock tranny be fine, or would the si tranny actually help? better gear ratios or what? it will be used on the street FYI. how about a reccomended tranny for him? wouldn't the b18b tranny be optimal? eh, i'm confused.

Won't work. The stock EK tranny is a D-series tranny, and the B18B is a B-series. Completely different bolt patterns, and the B trannies are physically larger. You can't use a stock tranny. What year hatch does he want to put the engine in? If it's 88-91, the best bet would be a 90-93 integra ls transmission. Don't use a B16A one unless the motor gets built to take the extra rpms.
