How much should I sell my R for?
I just bought an EVO VIII and have been trying to figure out how I could keep the R. But I think I am going to have to sell her. As much as I do not want to let her go it just isn't practical to have both cars.
2001 Phoenix Yellow ITR #486 with 68,000 miles. It has a Comptech Ice box and Intake and a 2,500 stereo.
What do you guys think is a reasonable price to ask?

Probably around 19-20k, depending on demand where you are (BTW, that's a bunch of mile!). Check out autotrader.com and see how many are selling close to your city
hmm were u at mercado a few days ago?.. some dude asked said he had an R adn was wonerding how much to sell it for... hmm witht eh stereo if it's a really good one I'd say 18.... cus there's a lotta mmiles on the car already
Thanks for the responses.....
I guess I will ask 20,500 which I know is kinda high due to the miles, but we'll see what happens.
I will let you guys know how the EVO is once its broken in. 400 more miles till its broken in.

I'd say maybe $19,000 and see what kind of responses you get. If there isn't much interest than lower it a little. Good luck selling your R and with the new Evo.
Congrats on all the miles.
I for one love to see people enjoy their R on a daily basis. I know I do.

You'll be lucky if you even get 18k. With your miles realistically you'll get 16-17k. Theres a reason why you didnt trade it in for the EVO...because you were probally offered 14-15k.

Exactly. Never ask an owner of a car to put a value to it
If you can wait then put a higher price on it and someone will come along and buy it.

I was actually offered 16k by the Mitsubishi dealer, which I thought was pretty good but too low for me.

I loved driving this car everyday 80 miles round trip commute. I wouldn't have any other way....well I guess I would since I am driving the EVO now...
Hell I guess if I hold out long enough to get what I want maybe no one will buy it and then I will have to keep it

You should have considered taking 16k for the trade in (without stereo), especially when you consider the sales tax savings.

After 3 1/2 months ITR#486 has sold for 16,750. I guess that is a decent price considering the throwout bearing / clutch will need to be replaced. I really hope the new owner takes care of her.
I can say that after driving an Integra GS for 3 years and then driving the ITR for 3 years and then 4 months in the EVO that the R is in a class of its own. Sure the EVO is faster and handles better and stops better but there is just something about the R.
For those of you thinking of letting your Type R’s go for something else really think it through. I still think that I should have just put 5-10k into her instead of buying the EVO. Oh while she’s gone now and I have the EVO which is a sweet car but I will miss R#486. Who knows maybe in a couple years I will buy another one.

That about sums it up for me. An 'R' is more than the sum of it's parts.

This does not apply in California unfortunately. You will still pay tax on the full purchase amount with no deduction for the trade in.
