you can make anything fast as long as you have the funds to build it....

dont even bother B16 sucks *** with only 98 foot pounds of torque. if you build it up you still wont get the torque as a b18

drop it for a gsr b18c1 or type r b18c5. You will easily drop 2 grand into that engine and still not make as much as the gsr stock. Sell the b16 and get something else.

thats a bullshit statement. I am a B18C1 owner and compared to a B16A, I could see where 1ntensiveVTECivic
is coming from. A B16A has potential. No one remembers when SKunkworks was running 12's with a B16A all motor.

The stock B16A tranny has shorter gears so it accelerates pretty hard compared to the GS-R tranny. B16A's love headwork.

the b series engines have a lot in common with eachother. the only differences being size and vtec. unless you want to talk about the ctr or itr engines. they all have potential, depends on how much you want to put into it. if you stroke or sleeve a b16, it would have the torque and hp to compete with a b18c. the question really is: what level do you want to take your car, and how much can you afford/ want to spend? a b18c is a nice engine to start working on, but it is expensive. b16 engines are cheaper, you could use the difference to buy parts or even a turbo. really up to you. plus, the b16 tranny has shorter gearing, great for all motor buildup. the gsr tranny is stronger and better suited to forced induction. what are your long term plans for the car? better start thinking ahead, before you kick yourself in the *** in the future.

I know I am with my B16A2
I like the challenge of getting lots of power out of a 1.6L engine..It's too easy to just drop in a b18..

B16 =

If you truly want your b16 fast the all motor route the first thing you should get is a gsr short block or better an ITR one. The gsr short block should run you about $1000-1500 depending on condition whuch would be a little cheaper then a stroker kit. The ITR is around $2500 just go with the gsr short block and you should be happy. Hope that helps

You could always go with the B16 and then up the displacement...there are stroker kits out for it now!

nah not worth the money... you wont be happy get a gsr motor and do a search next time there are going to be a whole bunch of dumbshits posting in here saying repost.

stroking their mighty h-t knowledge... you can spend a pretty penny on it like me but all your going to get is like 8 whp the most out of 1100 dollars worth of engine work.

I have a b16 and its cool but im gonna see about getting rid of it for something else... I cant do much with a 99 chassis thanks to the ref and all so going to invest in an older gsr.

apparntally people are uneducated about the b16 and its ability to make love at very high rpms. lookie lookie :

You can build a pretty fast B16 but it will never have the torque of a B18 or B20. What you do depends on what the purpose of the car is.

One thing very positive about the B16 is the nice ultra flat torque curve. Sure it's not a lot of tq. but it stays strong til the rev limit stops it.

Not my chart, eg6ajk's old B16...but look at that nice tq curve. Pretty simple set up too.

That link is to the fakest ******* bullshit known to man - the ENDYN supercharger.

All of it is total bullshit, and if you notice that **** was supposed to come out like 5 years ago.

Anyways back to the topic - build a B16A for all motor?

I think you should at least start with a GS-R block and go from there. I had a friend do upped CR, Toda B cams, etc. etc. in his B16A2 and only got 172whp. That was with a full SMSP header, exhaust, etc. and all really top notch ****.

My stock B18C5 with shittier cams, valvetrain, header, exhaust, pistons, etc. did 176whp with more torque too. Like my 129.8 to his 117 or so.

I'd either swap blocks or throw a JRSC on that B16A and lay the smack down on fully built 1.8L blocks all day on 10psi.

Oh and as far as stroker kits go - don't. Get your extra displacement from sleeving and boring, not from stroking. Stroking the B16A will ruin what it's known best for, and that's an ideal R/S ratio which keeps it rev happy and more reliable.

If anyone wants me to explain R/S and why stroking is a shitty idea for a daily driven B series let me know - I'll type it up when I have more time.

buy a ls shortblock that is cheaper than the gsr..you can get one for $300 in good shape and drop the b16 head and all the components.. and you'll be happy and you'll get a lot of power..

Not that I'm against the GSR block, I think it's a great idea. But I was just going to say that I think your friends setup just needs to be tuned more. I've seen more power than that with lesser cams, **** with those cams, he could hit 190 with tuning. FWIW
