Have the ECU chipped so the fuel cut-off isnt at 6600 (wherever pm6's cut off at?). Kinda pointless anyway, there really isnt gains going past 6500 with stock internals.

the d16a6 has a warm engine rev limiter at 7200, when it's cold, it only revs to about 6500.

I take mine to 7k all the time, but like Scott said above, with a completely stock engine it won't do any good to go past 6500.

wasn't max hp on the a6 at 7k? and max torque at 5k?

i have revved my chipped pm6 mpfi swapped 1.5 up to 7700rpms, i was still making a little bit of power but it wasnt enough to keep revving that high, i would say shift at 7100 if you are bouncing it off the rev limiter at 6800 on a cold start you have some issues

the actual rev limiter on the pm6 is 7200. Your tachometers are off, or you have a chipped ECU.

I hear 88-89 have a different rev limit than 90-91.... it would also help if this guy spoke real english.

I hit my revlimiter the other day..... I thought I broke something..... lol First time I ever hit it, it was cause of a missed shift...

I wouldn't be surpized if they do. The '90-91s have a much more agressive fuel/timing curve than the '88-89s do. The revlimiter could be different as well, but it seems that most people agree that their PM6 can't go past 7200 - I can't remember how high my PM6 went before I chipped it...

But as far as the initial question goes - The stock D16A6 should be able to handle 7k rev's fairly easily. I did it a few times with my old A6, never had a problem.

Maybe you blew your headgasket? Could have cracked your head? Normally white smoke means water/antifreeze. Check your oil to see if its a light brownish muck. I'll give you a picture of what the oil would look like if that happened...

I had a chipped 89 si motor and i rev'd to 8k, didn't feel safe doing that all the time and decided to just shift at 7,7.5k

i revved my D16A6 to the redline all the time and never had issues with it. it was all stock. hondas are built to be revved that high. the rev limiter is a safety device to keep ricers from revving higher than it is built for.

id like to get rid of the 8400 rev limiter in mine-cause was still pulling hard. but i know that i have to chip the ecu and when i do ill dump that low 112mph governor on the pr3.

On both my 90 crx si and my 90 civic si i would rev to just over 7000 with everything stock except iceman intake. And i raced quite a bit. Did just fine. Pulled all the way too. goal was to get it as close to rev limiter without actually hitting it as that would slow my down.
