Default DC Header

so I've heard a lot of good things and a lot of bitching about DC headers...I'm looking for good solid mid-range power (I probably won't pull much higher than 7 grand) cuz my car is my daily driver and I don't want it to be super extreme, I just want it to be more fun (plus I want it to look as stock as humanly possible so as not to attract any undue attention from hooligans and law enforcement...and sleepers are cool anyways...) and I've heard a lot of comments about these bastards. I'm wondering what your general opinions are on these and what you prefer if not the DC.

Also, if someone could point me to a good thread that discusses the tech aspects of headers and how their construction affect performance I'd much appreciate it.

A DC header is not worth the $400 price tag for us 6th Gen owners. Instead, I'm getting a Kamikaze header, which is only about $200, then add a 2.5" collector.

it's for a 96 LX...I'm purposely not swapping to an H22 or an F22B2 just cause I'm A) not down for doing all that work and b) interested in having a car that's a bit different...I'm not trying to make crazy HP, so why bother with all the work when I can pull those numbers with my stock motor?

Not worth their price.

The DC Headers would definitely not be worth the price new. I have DC Sports CC headers on my 2000 Accord along with a custom CAI (love that sound) and an Apex'i RS catback system. There is no discernable difference in power after bolting up the headers on the SOHC motor but I did notice about a 3 MPH constant increase on my timeslips but keeping the same trap speed down at the track. I gotta dig them up and scan them (or go make more at the track) to show ya. I would guestimate a 1-3 horsepower increase at the wheels at the very most to show such insignifacnt increases as that.

That said, I only paid $125 for mine on Ebay (though they are used, they are in perfect shape with no cracks, etc). If you can get them cheap, do it. Otherwise save your money for a H22a DOHC motor or turbo kit.

No way are you going to make H22 numbers from ANY stock F motor. No way.

The dc header will gain more on the lx motor than the ex. The ex exhaust manifold is already designed 4-2-1 so swapping to an aftermarket header wont make a difference. The lx exhaust manifold is really restrictive so swapping to an aftermarket header will show a slighty more noticable gain. Of course the header alone wont gain much, it has to work with other modifications to yield the best gains overall. You cant just open up airflow with a header.. you gotta have the intake and exhaust at least to compliment the gains of the header.

I wouldnt spend more than $300 on a header. Neuspeed makes just as good of a header and cost ~$225. Good luck finding one for a great price and have fun with the F22b2.

what I meant was I can make the numbers I want with my motor so why bother with a huge project such as an engine swap...

What you can to make the numbers. .30 over, forged pistons, cam, plain head
port and polish, fpr, 2.5 exhaust, header, 75 shot of nos. Will be just as good. If you do the work yourself cheaper too.

again...not the numbers I'm looking for...if I make ANYTHING over 150 I'll be pretty happy...I've seen F22B2s rated between 115 and 130 horse from the factory...now slap on a short ram intake, header, cat, exhaust, and a good ignition system (i'm trying to find out more about Jacobs Electronics ICE Pak or whatever they call it) and if at all possible keep runnin on 87 octane...so, my goals aren't all that lofty with my car...just a better daily driver that won't get it's lunch eaten by EVERYONE....

okay...'nother dumb question...I see tons of headers that say they are for the EX motor only...what's the diff? The block is the same...is there extra hardware on the EX headers that mine doesn't have?

You wont get 150hp with just i/h/e and ignition. Your car will feel a bit quicker with those mods but youll still get your lunch eaten by everyone. And the ex head is designed differently than the dx/lx/se head thats why the header is different. The exhaust ports goes [ O O O O ] on the ex and the other goes [ O OO O ].

Stick with regular becuase our cars arent ment for premium. Using premium is a waste of money and it will lower your perfromance and your gas mileage. Honda recommends regular, so just stick with that
