people with Mugen Front/Rear sway bar, please look in!
I understand that the 26mm rear tightens the rear like a mother and makes the car oversteer quite a bit. with the 26mm front Mugen sway bar in place, is the oversteer still the case or does the drive feel more neutral? anyone with personal experience who run both sway bars?
also, anyone with personal use of the Mugen sway bars and the Mugen Lowdown combo?
I'm deciding if I need both sway bars. I'm just the simple street R that wants less body roll.

Since you're stating that you're a simple street driver and not too much track driving, maybe the mugen rear sway bar was a little overkill. You will be oversteering like all hell on stock suspension (if that's what you have). If you wanted less body roll during the twisties you coulda upgraded to a stiffer shock/spring combo. In any case, the 26mm is gonna make your R wanna swing it's *** out like a **** in the twisties
yeah, I don't really track, streets is what I do.
I'm currently on a Illumina and H&R race setup. I've already ran a 24mm sway bar, I've definitly heard and know that the Mugen 26mm has crazy oversteer. but with both rear and front sway bars in? does it neutral it out and just make the car handle much tighter with a rather similar amout of oversteer or understeer to begine with OEM?
I'm also looking forward to some Mugen Lowdowns since my shocks are a good 3 years old. I love the 3/4 inch drop, perfect for the stock effect. does anyone run this mugen swaybars + lowdown combo that have anyt thoughts?

Making the rear end unstable is the last thing you want to do on a street-only car.
Ditch the 3 year old shocks, and buy the Lowdowns first, see how you like them.
Why you're driving fast enough to notice body roll on the street with H&R race springs is beyond me.

I do feel body roll, nothing extravagant, I'm just trying to perfect my suspension setup. felt like upgrading to something maybe better
still, no one with the front / rear Mugen swaybar for comment?

If you're going to get the Mugen Lowdowns, then forget about getting the front Mugen bar, because the Lowdowns will partially neutralize the effect of the rear Mugen bar.
Also, if you get the 16" 215/45 Azenis along with the lowdowns, it will close the wheel gap to about 1 3/4 fingers in the front and back and grip will be amazing.

I'll be buying both sway bars. I figured that Mugen isn't the company to just make a front swaybar for no reason, it's probably matched with the rear one to a T. getting the lowdowns too, I let you guys know how the Mugen suspension combo ride feels with and without the front sway in place.
once again, thanks for the H-T support!

So, you were just looking for someone to agree with you?
I stll think you ought to slow down on the street - the fact that you havent done any track events makes you even more dangerous since you do not now how to control a car at speed when the unexpected happens.

This is funny, because I actually have the Mugen Lowdown sus and both front & rear 26mm sways. If you are just going to use it on the street, then it WILL work just fine. You will love the set up. But do get the suspension done first. I've never had an issue with control or handeling.

Just be careful - i have had the rear end step out on my integra (450/600# springs, stock swaybars) on the street while driving normally. Doesnt take much more than a pothole or a slick spot on wet pavement.

This is how I started. I had the lowdowns installed with stock sway bars F & R.
The car lost its ability for lift-throttle oversteer. When I put the mugen rear 26mm bar in, it restore the car to the "like stock" feeling. I can get it to rotate more if I adjust the settings on the lowdowns and adjusting my tire pressures.
I can't imagine how it wuold be like if I replaced the front swaybar. But of course I autoX and do not roadrace.
DOSPOWND, you still get lift-throttle oversteer with your setup? Do you roadrace or autoX? and what tires and settings are you running?

Yeah, I'm very interested to know where you got a 24mm too....I've been looking for a thicker sway bar, but it seems Mugen is the only only company that makes anything for an ITR that's thicker than 22(other than the JDM)....they make a 24 and 26 but they're also very expensive!
Who makes it, and how much was it????

Unfortunately I don't know enough to answer your question really. I have only done 3 autoX since owning the car, which actually came with the Lowdowns and 26mm F&B. The car was Glen Kawano's (current owner of the DC Sports DC2R) and this is the set up he was using for autoX. I know he had 15in Volks, but I am not sure of tire size. I know he liked the set up a great deal, but don't know how he had it set for autoX. I drive daily set at 1 all around. My autoX I've had various settings to see what I liked, this is all ontop of 215's. It will be a little while before I find my typical settings. Sorry I'm not that much help, but overall I love the set up and have never had the rear get away from me, but then again maybe that just means I'm not pushing it hard enough while autoXing.

No, the comment was made in reference to rates that an ITR racecar might run.

I agree. I've had my LS teg's tail slide out numerous times with only stock sways (12.9 mm in rear
), front/rear strut towers, lower tie, trunk brace 400 f/500 r springs. Should always be careful on the street.

Ehh. Its easy enough to dial in a safer setting with the lowdowns that he'll be getting. 2 Front / 3 Rear is what I run on the street. 1F/1R seems too soft for me (Even though its stiffer than stock). IMO, there's too much body roll at that setting.
Actually, with the Azenis, it makes it even harder to induce LTO because they have so much grip. I think he'll be fine once he switches bars and suspension.

My old ITR had the low-down along with Mugen F/R sway bars. My opinion was that it was great on the street, decent on the track, and not enough rotation at autocross.
With the low-down I think you are very safe running the stock front bar and a Mugen rear bar. I swithced to that set-up and was quite happy with the all around versitility of the set-up.

I agree. I run the lowdown, mugen f/r strut bars and the 26mm rear sway bar. with 15x7.5" ssr comps and 205 azenis, the car is very streetable. I can't ask for any better setup as I can dial in the f/r shock settings to get the handling I want. currently running 2f/3r on the shock settings for hard mountain daily driving. car handles much better than the stock itr setup at a cost of many $$$$, but I think it is more than worth the result.
I've recently started playing with diferent alignment settings and that alone can have a great influence on the way the car handles/feels.
Like Grampa said, there are many ways to tune the suspension on the R to get the results you want.
If you're looking to go the mugen sway bars/ lowdown combo, I'd get the lowdown and the rear bar first, then add the front if you think you need it. In my case, I can live w/o the front bar as I feel I can already tune the suspension to my liking. YMMV
