Default ITR Muffler on 96 LS Teg

OK I got a smart idea on getting a quiet hi-flow exhaust, right. I bought a ITR muffler (expensive!) to replace my loud DTM Style Dual exhaust. Oh yeah, I loved sound of the DTM, but not on the highway, sure sounded nice at 80mph, but speed limit is 65! So, I had the ITR mounted, great! My joy was quickly booted once I noticed that my intake was louder that my exhaust and the Teg just seemed clogged up again. Also, the ITR just didn't fit well. Too big! Didn't expect that. I have a custom bent 2.25" straight from the cat. Anyway, have any suggestions to get what I want, deep low sound and smooth bareable highway travel. Is there a happy medium? Any suggestions? I thought of going with a tunable exhaust. Even thought of fabricating some kind of tuneable insert for my DTM.

just disconnect the muffler....try that....sounds well and saves weight...

also ITR muffler is farily well flowing, so it can't really bottle neck the perforance of a b18b....you might loose a little but gain nice and quiet ride....as well as stealth looking car, no more exhasut tickets....enjoy it....

I have a Type R muffler on my turbo LS. Personally I think the Type R muffler is a buch of crap. I noticed no improvement what so ever. In fact the Part number for the type R muffler was identical to the one on my LS.

Why is sound more important than performance?
The person who beat you to the next light can't hear your exhaust.: he's in front of you.

Good point! Performance comes before most everything else in my mind.

This is not true. I don't know whereyou obtained that part # but the ITR muffler is different than of LS..even GSR. Perhaps you picked up a LS muffler instead??? I have an ITR muffler and it bigger piping than GSR, welded tip, and a LOT lighter than GSR's muffler...flow is better. I can see it on my boost gauge (drop boost psi = better flow).

Hmm thats interesting. THen maybe someone put the Type R tip on the muffler that they sent me and ripped me off. I got it on here from someone that was doing their Type R up and wanted to get rid of old parts. The muffler itself looks little different but nothing major. And the *** dyno didn't register anything at all. I hope I got screwed

Yup you're on the same page as me! Not that you need that bit of assurance but, The ITR muffler catback is 30% more free flowing. The majority of the freer flow is in the muffler redesign itself.

And the piping is 2.25 for USDM and 2.5 for JDM. Ahhh soon I'll have 2.5 pipes mated to my cat.

A.

I do believe the ITR has a good flow, but no sound on my LS at all! My Weapon R intake is louder! Anyway, I'm still trying to figure out how to make it hang better. Looks like there isn't much room on top. I have some beam looking thing right were the muffler hangs. I can probably only get about 3/4" higher by playing with the hangers. I don't want the thing rattling and makin noise.

I found a guy in FL who was selling one used from his 2000 ITR on ebay. I paid $145 shipped. I've seen them go for $150 used as well on different web sites. I'd check out auctions and the http://www.urbanracer.com classifieds. I see ITR stuff on there all the time.
