loose steering, need help!
does anyone have a solution for the bit of steering wheel play i have?it feels too "muchy", like a jello version of a proper steering. I have noticed that newer ITR's have very quick and direct steering, it also feels "tighter", I've lost that. Is it my ball joints? tie rods? steering rack? Should i change bushings? shocks and springs are 3 years old ( illuminas + H&R race), time for new ones? would an alignment do much? Its not that bad, I just want her to be a little tighter. I rarely break 50 miles an hour on exit ramps now or take windy roads like I used to. it's just too imprecise.
thanks for your help ITR gurus!

what is the life spand of the tie rods?
what is the life spand on illuminas? how would I know if I have a blown shock?
at high speeds, my steering wheel feels so "nervous". I never break 100 now, too unstable. it's loosed like if it was a delayed reaction at turns.

it has a very slight wobble feeling as i go faster , and it seems to react slow to turning, the car almost pulls itself a little left or right, when i am driving, very slight tho.....how can i look for the prob, should i lift it and move wheels, and look at bushings and tie rods
bump, come on H-T people, I don't want to get owned from the acura dealer. without you guys I'm lost!

Loose steering? Possibly the steering rack or more than likely your tie rod ends. Those balljoints have a tendency to go bad.
Improper balanced wheels will not effect "loose steering." Just cause a vibration and cup your tires.

answer to my problem : TIRES!!! was running Falken Azenis up front and Pirelli 700-z in the back. did a tire rotation, car handles mucho better. next step: get 2 more Pirelli 700-z for the rear.

When I had Azenis on GSR wheels (which are the same size dimensionally), I had VERY poor steering response when I first got em. Sad thing is, I put them on a few days before a track day and I was not yet comfortable with the way it responded.
So now I can understand what kind of feeling he had.

yeah, the feeling sucked, so loose and nervous. running stock type R wheels. ordered new pirellis, everything should be fine now.
oddly enough, I IMed back a bunch of people that had the same loose steering problem, and 2 of them were running different tires up front than the back. hope this helps

kkim is correct, you can adjust out the play on our steering racks. be forewarned though, if you tighten the worm gear up too much, you can prematurely wear out the rack. depending on the mileage of your car, you prob shouldn't have to do this. i did not have to do it till over 150k.

update: my problem is still alive!
what I did: changed all 4 tires to potenza S-03s, alignment done.
went to acura to check tie rods and steering rack. they said everything was ok. I asked if they were SURE, the said they're SURE.
I feel screwed here, should I try an other Acura? how do you check for tie rods that have gone bad? wiggle the wheel from top to bottom? I've got no play moving it like that. I'm at a loss of options here...
help... anyone?

try the adjustment I suggested. I don't know how the dealer checked your steering, but the only way I've been able to really tell if the rack was still in spec was to loosen the locknut, tighten the adjuster and back it off just a hair. retighten the lock nut and you're done. try it and see if it helps.
what have you got to lose if this wasn't tried yet?
good luck

I asked the Acura techs (a couple ) and they never heard of a steering rack adjustment. I'm going to take your word for it and try it out tonight, I'm convinced. nothing else worked. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
