Default Need help deciding btw N/A, Turbo, or SC please give me your advice.

Hi there.

I have a 98 JDM ITR motor in my 95 Sedan. I was at first planning to go all motor and try to hit 13's with full interior, 17's and system... However it doesn;t seem possible anymore and if so it wll take so much more money then dropping a turbo or sc. I know that itr motors are pretty much meant for N/A applications... However i need some advice from you experts... Is it ok if I do go teh turbo or sc route? wat are the + and - between those choices?

If i end up do follow thru with N/A motor wat recommendations can you give me and the power expectation? I have the basic bolt ons + the mugen ecu already... however I am hungry for more power...

Well thank you.

No one can help me out on this one at all? I figured that itr owners would know the + and - of each route and they would be friendly enough to offer some advice... i guess i am wrong... or is it because that u have us itr motors and that the jdm motors are different from yours so you have no clue on how to mod it?

I thought nobody posted because we all thought you'd get a bunch of replies.

Ok, here goes:

NA route - $100/whp. Expensive. Reliable. 200whp

SC route - Numbers are low for the jr blower and the vortech is all top end. fixes are in the works for the jr application. 200whp for jrsc and 280(?) for vortech when it comes out...

turbo - hot. no road-racing on this one. touchy and tempermental. Do it right and it will give you the most power of the ways you want to go, but big $ to do that. Top Fuel is prolly the most high-end in terms of name. Others that come to mind are drag iii (ugly but works good) and greddy (numbers are equal to that of the gsr kit).

I guess I also have to give you the mandatory "do a search."

If you have more specific questions, post those. I think your topic was too broad and most didn't want to type as much as I have.

Oh yeah, on the jdm motor thing. Be happy; you have higher compression, good header, and ecu tuned accordingly. You'd get slightly higher numbers than the average NA build on stock pistons. top fuel would be a nice application too... but you'd need to lower compression (sell pistons to someone else?). And it is very pricey.

insults are not going to get you any responses FYI

if you're going NA - you have to ditch those heavy-*** 17's and the sub box.

sound like you're inclined to go FI anyways. with the motor you have you will be limited to around 6 lbs. of boost - is that worth the several thousand dollars you will spend on a turbo/SC?? the answer is probably no - most FI cars are 1 bar of boost or more. if you are going to do that then you will need to change the pistons of your car to a lower compression ratio. if you are pulling your pistons, you will likely need a slight overbore and new, better rings. you will also need a new exhaust manifold if you go turbo and a whole gamut of electronics to prevent the thing from detonating (ECU, turbo timer, boost controller)

increasing the power output of a car 100 hp or more leads you to more costly changes namely a better clutch, better brakes and a more efficient cooling system.
