Default ACURA's factory CD changer question

I'm planning to swap my factory tape player to an Alpine cd head unit, I heard that Honda's/acura's cd changer will work with Alpine head unit, is this true? anyone ever tried or know anything about it? please let me know, thanks a lot!

I know you can run a factory hond/acura headunit w/ an alpine non ai-net changer. So vice versa seems probable. I once saw it on the web where the schematic for the actual pin configurations were given. Very simple, but I can't remember where I saw it. You can buy an aftermarket converter plug from acura headunit to alpine changer for about $20. That's what I did.

Or simply take it to a local stereo shop that deals with alpine and pay somebody a little money to "hard" wire it for you. The time it takes you to figure it out and do the soldering yourself might not be worth the trouble.

Yes... You can use the factory Honda changer with an aftermarket Alpine head unit.

2 things will have to happen:

1. The Alpine CD player will need to begin with the letters "CDM". Such as CDM7871. It CANNOT start with a "CDA". CDA units use Alpine's AI cable which will not be compatible with your changer.

2. You will need to have a knowledgable installer switch 2 of the pins inside the changer cable to work with the aftermarket head unit. If they have been in the industry for any length of time, they should know exactly how to do it.
