EF is a better handling chassis than DC? Comments?
Well -- I was getting my tires mounted and balanced today (Yoko es100's rock Kumho's world btw) and this guy asks about my suspension. I tell him Konis/H&R/ITR Rear sway/Spoon Bars etc. and he says, "sounds good", but it wont out handle an EF. "EF's and DA's are the best handling chassis made by Honda..."
So I am a little bemused by this, because I seriously had the impression (not cocky, just had the impression) that DC's had the most potential to handle wonderfully. However - I dont pretend to know for sure.
Educate me - is he just thinking EF's are the best because he has one, or is there something behind his theory? Anyone owned both?
regards,
robbie

EF/DA have front radius rods stock, but their unibodies are less stiff. They also have less suspension travel. I figure the cars are all similar enough that aside from a weight advantage there's close enough potential that it would really be up to the driver more than anything else if they were prepared similarly.
Besides, "outhandle" is a very general statement and not objective at all.

thats a pretty open ended statement. but it's safe to say that an ef series honda would have much less rigidity that a dc series, so from the bolting on new parts perspective i.e. putting a set of uprated springs and shocks, the dc would be a better handling car.
also... and i know this isn't the most accurate way of comparing cars
, but some older best motoring videos have comparisons between an ef civic with a b18cr and a jap spec dc2r, the dc2r ripped it sideways on the track, and was still marginally quicker in a straight line once past third gear (i guess maybe due to the ef having inferior aerodynamics?).

you do know that the DC2R is light years ahead of any other DC2 chassis in terms of manufacturing, right...? there is no comparison. the ITR has multiple subframe reinforcements, is weight balanced, has the best brake/suspension setup of any DC2... its not fair to say DC2's are the best simply because of the ITR.

Well, you know what... guys at tire stores tend to be full of ****. When I brought my rims in to get Azenis mounted on them, the guy was like "why only 15's?", then he went on to say that his friend with a turbo CRX only runs 17's because they handle the best. I'm like "whatever, dude". I actually race, he doesn't. I'm not going to waste my time explaining **** to everyone and their brother. If they want to be ignorant, that's fine with me.
As for the DC vs DC-R, the R is obviously better to begin with, but I'm very happy with the plain DC chasis and it has a ton of potential that 99% of Integra drivers will never use. And it's not like you can't improve the non Type-R's to out-perform the Type-R's.

I suppose I was simply wondering about the potential of each chassis handling-wise...I realize its open-ended...I am not sure what to say
He just seemed sure that the EF would own the DC (excl. DC2R) on a road race.
Eh. Oh well. He is a nice guy - just didnt provide much back up on that.

yeah, most people in auto shops tend to be misinformed... how ironic is that..

being a owner of a dc and and ef i dont see the ef out handling the dc if both were modified equally...thats why my ef stays a straight line machine...the thing just handles weird...wheel base too short
well i've driven a stock DA and a stock DC...id have to go with the DA, its suspension is more stiff. but, of course, suspensions can be modified. as far as the EF, id say its more nimble than the DC, but less stable..
