Default Bottomed out ... now lost a small piece of tranny casing

I bottomed out on a dip in the road which caused me to lose a small piece of the tranny casing. I tried to take a pic of it but my digicam batteries are dead (i'll post pics up when they're charged up) . I borrowed a pic from c-speedracing.com to show the damaged area in the pic.

I lost a small piece of metal underneath one of the screws. The threads are exposed but the screw is still tightly intact and it's not leaking oil. Should I worry about this? And Is it ok to put some silicone around the damaged area to protect it?

I'll post an actual pic of the damage after my digicam batteries are charged up. TIA

This sounds ghetto but if you want a quick fix, and it's not leaking, smother it in JB Weld and then Permatex. Then proceed to raise your car so you don't bottom out again.

that was my first thought as well, however keep in mind if you go this route, you'll never get that bolt out if you ever decide to rebuild the tranny (since he said the thread are exposed). also depending on the damage, it could start leaking oil down the road. so i guess if you never plan on going inside the tranny, then clean it up really well and smother some JB Weld in there and call it a day.

i just got an idea.....you could put a thin layer of permatex on the exposed threads, let it dry, then smother everything in JB Weld. that way the bolt could still come out. its kind of hard to say if this would be effective though since we dont have pics of the actual damage yet. just thought i'd share that though.

DAMN need to bust out the JB weld until you can get a new trans or until it makes you get a new trans

Put motor oil on the threads, not the damaged casing, and then put the jb weld over it all. It will stick to the casing and not the threads.

NO NO NO, it has to be 100% oil free before you JB weld it.
JB weld will actually absorb oil when its still in its liquid state.
Makes it very porous, with the possibility of oil actually seeping
through it later.

JB Waterweld, works for me. Although I'd rather have a new tranny.

Hah, keeping it ghetto wit da JB yO! Even if you JB it, trust me you can chizzle it away later if you ever want to swap casings....then spin that bolt out with a air rachet/impact.

Here's a picture of the damage. Sorry for the bad quality

Can I just throw some hondabond on it .. it's not leaking at the moment ... the oil is coming from a leaky cam seal

hmmm, nasty..... i would use some kind of apoxy type stuff just to seal it up , you may want to get into that tranny one day and jb weld wont permit that......sucks it happened, how dropped is your vehicle?
