Default Torque wrench question

I know that torque is usually measured in lbs per ft but my wrench measures in inches per lb. Is this the same as lb/ft?

Maybe i have to use the Newton readings?

No, inch/lbs. is not the same as ft./lbs.

Here is a nifty little conversion chart that comes with my Craftsmen torque wrenches (or at least my crappy facsimile of it):

To obtain\multiply # of: in./oz.__in./lbs.__ft./lbs__cm/kg__m/kg___nM
in./oz. -----------------------1-------- 16-------192----13.89----1389----141.6
in./lbs.-------------------.0625 ------ 1 -------12 ----.8680-----86.80----8.851
ft./lbs.-------------------.005208---.08332---- 1------.07233---7.233 ---.7376
cm/kg------------------ .07201---- 1.152----13.83---- 1 -------100-----10.20
m/kg--------------------.077201-- .01152---.1383 ----.01------ 1-------.1020
nM-----------------------.007061---.1130----1.356---.09806---9.806------ 1

HA, how's that?

<----way too much time on my hands.

take the inch/pounds wrench back and get a foot/lbs wrench

inch lbs wrenches are only good for small engine repair and VERY few repairs on our cars

Basically, 12 inch lbs = 1 foot pounds. And most inch pound wrenches only go up to like 65-75...and that's only about 5-7 ft lbs....

Not necessarily, mine goes from 25-250 in./lbs. and should prove very useful during my planned engine build.

won't be too useful because that's only 20.8 lbs MAX. Torque wrenches operate MOST accurately in their mid range. As in, buy a 150 ft lbs wrench since you're going to be torquing bolts between 20 and 85 ft lbs.

A 150 ft lbs wrench is the same as the inch lbs wrench, and it's 1/2 inch drive. 69.99 at Sears. I work there, so I know

But seriously, get the right torque wrench for the best possible accuracy
