Default Problem: Sudden, momentary, engine power drop during normal driving?

Just thought I'd run this problem by the board before talking to the dealership...

My car is a stock 2000 ITR w/ 40K mi. Recently I've noticed that sometimes when I'm just triving along, say in 4th gear on a normal road, not accelerating, not decelerating, just cruising, the engine power will drop suddenly for anywhere from a split second to 2 seconds, then it returns to normal. Sometimes it is just a blip, sometimes it is enough for me to feel a "lurch". I haven't had any other problems to speak of.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?

Thanks!
Chris

I had that problem once. I was on a bridge and the car shut off completely a few seconds later. Then I added gas to the vapor filled tank and all was good again.

I would guess it's the alternator, but if it were that I think the battery light would flicker for that brief instant.

Has this happened on more than one tank of gas?

It has happened on more than one tank of gas, and different gas stations (brands).

I agree on the alternator as mentioned by Reid. I had that exact same problem, and then a few months later, lights start going dim, etc. Eventually Acura replaced alternator and all is well now.
