Buying 88 LXI, is the roof leaking?
I'm thinking of buying an 88 LXI. I identified some of the problems that I can fix my self. What I'm concerned about is that both the drivers and rear floor behind the driver are soaking wet. It might be from the moon roof. I didn't notice any evidence of it leaking but I would liike to know how to check if it is leaking and can it be fixed? This is the only thing that might keep me from buying it. Thanks for the help.
best way to find out is to drive it through an automatic carwash. all that high pressure spray is great for finding leaks. leaking moonroof would possibly have water stains on the headliner.
Ask the current owner what the cause is. maybe they will just tell you.
at any rate, definately pull the carpet up and check the condition of the floor pans. If water has been sitting in there for long they could be rusted very badly, maybe even all the way through. Don't know what the inspection process is in your state, but I'm ceratain that rusted through floorpans won't pass inspection in MD
edit:If it's a LX then i'm almost 100% certain that is an aftermarket sunroof because I don't believe that they were available from the factory with one. if it's aftermarket, I'd bet that the moonroof is leaking. aftermarket ones almost always do

It is an LXI. I think the roof is factory. I didn't notice any water stains on headliner or water along the moonroof. It was raining when I first looked at it. But both the driver and rear floor were drenched. I would have to buy it first to get to car wash because car is not insured or registered. The guy selling it claims that it's his son's car and has no idea why the floors are wet. How hard is it to get the carpet up? Not sure if this guy will appreciate me pulling up carpet before I buy it. Thanks for the reply and great ideas.
