Default My baby got bitch slapped today :(

I was driving tonight on a dark road and I hit a skunk at about 75 mph. I pulled over at the nearest shoulder and surveyed the damage. The radiator is cracked, the front lip is ruined, and the front bumper is cracked in half also. The hood will not shut now. The worst thing of all being that I have the JDM front end on my car. I have full coverage on my car which should help pay for it. How should I go about talking to the bodyshop about replacing the parts? Do I say that I need a JDM CR-X front bumper and lip? Will an insurance company accept a quote from an online retailer like Passwordjdm? If anybody has any advice so that I can get my car repaired properly I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Justin

they need a damn :jawdrop: smiley on this board.. ****** oklahoma roadkill, Im always bitchin about that. I hit a dead skunk once but all it did was leave a nice big blob of flesh and fur on an exhaust hanger.

Why couldnt you buy another jdm front end from like hmo with the insurance money and have the body shop take care of the rest?

Owned by roadkill. So sorry. Buy the parts yourself out of pocket, and "sell" them to the body shop for OEM parts prices. Most places won't bitch because they are getting paid by insurance no matter what you do. Seriously, it's what you have to do sometimes to go custom.

Jawdrop like this one? My private stash.

Is there a way that I can get an estimate from an expensive shop and then buy the parts with the insurance money? I'm not sure what the best way to handle this is and I would appreciate any good advice.

What the hell kind of a skunk could do that much damage. Skunks I've seen are like cat sized animals, you would most likely just squish them if you hit them, not smash your whole car up like if you hit a deer.

My car is pretty low. There is a picture of it in the CRX pictures section. He hit the front lip and the front bumper.

Update: The insurance adjustor looked at it and said that they will give me a check for $1261.91 minus a $500 deductible. How much does it normally cost to get a front bumper painted? TIA

For all I know it could have been a black lab. The road was pretty dark but he only took out the lip spoiler and cracked the lower part of my bumper. The car already has a great paint job so I will use the money to try to find all of the parts that I need.

It might have been a dog or something. DID you smell *** afterwards?

I hit a skunk one time, it made a THUD on the bottom of the car (didnt hit the bumper and my car is looowww) Then i smelled ***, and stayed smelly for about 3 days.

Update: The radiator support was bent back almost four inches. We had to attach one end of a tow rope to the radiator support and one end to a parking french fry. We pushed the car away from the parking barrier at around five miles an hour probably 6-8 times in order to straighten it out. I'll get some pics up when I get the chance. There is nothing like free ghetto frame repair. Does anybody know a good cheap place to get a JDM EF8 front bumper and lip spoiler? TIA

Justin

You got RIPPED OFF! What did they charge you $3500 for? $2000 to pull the dent?

$500 is totally possible. Earl Sheib or Maaco can do that. All you have to do is have them put a clear coat on top of the paint. After that is all set, wet sand any orange peel out your self (saves you $600 or so) with some fine grit paper. Polish it out and it will look like glass!

I have seen cars get done for $1500 with minor bodywork and come out show car spec. $3500 better had gotten you a FLAWLESS paintjob....

there are a bunch of asian owned shops up here who do really good jobs for that much...they take off all your lights/windows/whatever's necessary to paint inside your doorjambs...and if you want an inside/outside paint, i'm sure it wont cost too much if you strip most of your car yourself...maaco does a decent paint job for that much, but i'd rather go to the asian shops up here coz you get to pick any paint color you want

that is the exact position I am in right now GTi hit my door, body shop cuts me a deal, repair damage and repaint the whole car $1500 (champ white & blue pearl coat). I couldnt imagine spending $3500. guess it depends how bad he damage is, mine is a little dent and a scratch on my bodykit.

$3500 for a paint job ? that better be a quote for Mystic or whatever that color changing paint is... When I wrecked my ranger, I got it painted, every little dent and ding taken out of the doors, and the top of the bed and hail damage from the roof, then they put on 2 new bumpers, billet grille, radiator support, headlights, and painted it with a custom PPG color, and it turned out marvelous... $1600

http://www.milesmedia.net/ranger.jpg theres a picture of it, Lynns Body shop in Petersburg, Virginia did it...
