Default Problems with fresh motor.

Man, was I excited to get my car fired up after it had been sitting for 2 months. After I fired it up, I was less than pleased. The car runs like official ****! It sounds like it is choking or something. It won't rev really much past 4000 rpm, it burbles and has very little power. Sounds way too deep. Id like someone to help me identify the problem... Could the timing be off by a tooth or something? There is a wire with a rippled tube comeing out of the firewall on the drivers side with a pink connector, and I cant figur out where to plug it in. Could that be the problem? Eh, Off to bed, Im frustrated. Here's my setup:

CTR Pistons
Toda B's
Toda Valvetrain
Hondata
RC 370's

have the rings seated???

If whoever built the engine coated plenty of oil on the cylinder walls...it will run like crap for a good hour....

any CEL?

Talk to the builder....

I built the motor. At the age of 18 I love taking risks . During closer inspection, I realized I'm a ******* dumbass and put the timing belt on 1 tooth off, so it was firing on the downstroke. I'm an idiot...but I corrected the problem and now it runs, and runs it does! I haven't taken it past 6K and I am already very, very impressed. Now if only I could get it to idle right....

Thanks,

Matt

dope! I built my first one when I was 16....turned out perfect!

It didn't effect firing, unless you didn't adjust ignition timing...but at least it runs good

Yes, it is working very well! It took me till tonight to get it running because the dude who I bought RC 370's from sent me some injectors that weren't RC's and they were used! He won't refund my money, so I am contemplating a "trip" to TN. Luckily Inline Pro had some RC 370's in stock. I am very pleased with the setup, even though I've barely driven the car. The only thing I don't like is that the idle fluctuates like crazy, and the car likes to stall after it gets hot. I guess I'll just have to mess with the idle adjustment screw.

Thanks,

Matt

part of that will be a tuning issue. we can take a crack at that later.
but for now, see whatyou can do with the idle screw. might have to adjust the
throttle plate. jsut make sure if you do that you reset the tps

I assume resetting the TPS is covered in the manual? I did adjust the the tension in the throttle cable so it pulled a little, but the idle was on crack, and would fluctuate between 1200-2100, so I loosened it, and decided i'd figure it out tomorrow. It also stalled during that too which was wierd.

youhave to pull the TB off and slot the screws so they can be removed or looosened/tightened.
checking TPS voltage should be in the manual though.

Remember your idle is going to be lopey because of those cams. And make sure your valves are adjusted properly. With Toda B's, this is a must. But get used to V8 like idle....I love it!!
