well i was thinking of getting a carbon fibre hood for looks but mostly for performance. will i really notice the difference? i wanted a VIS hood, they are around 500-600, am i correct? how heavy are they and how much will it effect my handling and quarter mile times? thanks

 

I have a VIS OEM CF on my prleude and you won't see no different by going to a cf hood. The only reason why i when to a cf was becasue my stock hood was chipping kinda bad.

edit: Oh yeah I got my CF hood on a GB for 350 shipped I think can't remember for sure.

the difference in weight is so minimul its like driving ur car without a briefcase and a 12 pack in the trunk.... its mostly for looks, and 500-600 is a bit steep... ebay is at 300 + shipping, so i'd shop around

 

i agree. i got my 4th gen oem CF hood for 285. not much difference at all. weight is about 15 lbs i would say.... maybe alittle more.

 

my carbon fibre hood was significantly lighter than my OEM hood, although im painting my hood to match the car im over the whole CF hood look, even though people love the way it looks on my silver lude..peace

 

well how heavy are stock hoods? i've heard that carbon fibre hoods weigh in at about 8-15 pounds. or at least thats waht i want.

plus any weight removed from over the front wheels is a plus for Auto-X'ing and such... makes it "closer" to a balanced car. Only downfall is it bumps you into an even higher class

 

Is a VIS much different from a cheaper brand? I know the others have non-rolled edges, and that's prob. more prone to cracking....any major reason to stick w/ a big one like VIS?

 

VIS is real good, i have one on my lude, fit's perfect, looks great got mine for 345, Only Fiber Images or Spoon is better, and good luck find a spoon one

 

yea i like my vis hood, and it is a good bit lighter than the stock

I believe that the stock 4g hood is about 35 lbs or at least very close around that area.

 

i think i agree with that. that stock hood is ******* huge....

 

how about the 5th gen? and the VIS OEM style hood for the 5th gen is about 12 pounds right?

I dont know about yall but..my stock hood gets pretty damn hot.
Do you think it would make the Carbon Fiber warp?
I've seen one pic of a prelude with a carbon fiber hood and it was barely warped.
Could it just be bad quality, because RX-7's run alot hotter and they don't seem to have problems...
