Default Anyone running an RSX oil filter for a long time now?

I want to change my oil and wanted to see if any GSR guys have been running the RSX oil filter w/o any problems.

BTW, would a dented oil pick, on the bottom part w/ the filter, change oil pressure significally?

i haven't read anything about this before....but i'm assuming the rsx filter is bigger...

does it work on an LS motor?
also, if it is bigger, how much extra oil do you put in?

DO NOT RUN ANY OTHER FILTER THAN ONE THAT WAS MADE FOR YOUR CAR!

To tell the truth guys, I think it is silly for you to try this. What are the supposed advantages of doing this?? Are they worth the possibility of leaks? What about the possibility of you dumping 3 - 4 L of oil all over the freeway??

The filters were not made for our cars. I would never suggest using anything other than a filter meant to run with our cars because of potential seal problems you might have. Is that worth any type of gain you THINK you are getting for this?

a lot of people do this on other cars and have zero problems...as long as the diameter of the filter is the same, you aren't going to leak anything.

This is probably true, but why bother? What is to be gained? Noticed I said probably true. A lot of times you can run a different filter on your car (size) and have no problems, doesn't mean you never will......

the RSX oil filter works on all b-series engines, its small, acts the same as a HAMP filter basically, and it increases oil pressure about 15psi. I don't know what the rest of you are talking about, I just wanted to know if anybody has been running one for a while.

they might be but the design is diffrent. compare the bosh, mobil 1 and stp and look in the inside. the STP one is missing this center piece at the base of the filter that mobil 1 and bosch has it.

i dont know where your getting this oem honda filter is fram is disguise. honda filters does not use cardboard paper filters that fram uses. do more research my friend.

"Here are the measurements and information of each oil filter.

HP-1004
Thread pitch: M20 x 1.5-6H Thread
Outside Diameter: 3.12"
Height: 3.48"
PSI Relief Valve: 11-14 PSI
Anti-Drain: Yes

HP-1010
Thread pitch: M20 x 1.5 Thread
Outside Diameter: 2.78"
Height: 3.75"
PSI Relief Valve: 11-17 PIS
Anti-Drain: Yes

We do not recommend using HP-1004 on your 2002 RSX Type S. The thread pitches are different and the PSI Relief Valve have different pressures.
Thank you,

Lisa Sutton
K&N Technical Support"

HP-1004= "Older" Honda/acura oil filter
HP-1010= '01 honda civic, RSX; etc. oil filter

That's what K&N said about the subject matter. I had a couple of extra K&N oil filters from my old B series and wanted to know if it was ok to use them on my RSX Type S. The answer to that is a big NO!

Either filter will actually thread on to either block, but it's not made to do so.

I've been running the small Hamps and like them very much.

some like capacity, others pressure.

I haven't decided which I prefer.

man, this is such an unsignificant thing that it shouldn't matter. just use OEM.

agreed...
RSX filters cost the same if not 50 cents more the B Series filters...
BOTH will work fine on integras, i've talked to shops and work at a Honda dealer and it's A OK!
And yes some OEM filters are made by fram, i believe it's canadian filters...there was a test done comparing US, CAN, and JAP OEM honda filters and JAP made filters worked the best while canadian was last
-Sergio, who bought 10 Japanese filters (yes they're real, made by Toyo Roki) last time he went to parts dept

Has anyone who uses a RSX filter in their B- Series Integra engine seen the response they get when they ask a Acura or Honda tech over at the dealership? The dealership people laugh there head off cause of the stupidity. I mean, people always say that the filters are compadable, but if they were exchangable why wouldn't Honda use the same filter from the factory for both the B-Series and K-Series engine? Its cause you can't. Sure it might fit and not leak, but throw on their 60 000 miles on come back and talk about the experience. With Honda spending millions of dollars on research and development, why go against them and play engineer over a dumb little filter. There is a reason why everytime you shop or call around for parts that they asked the basic questionsn "Year, Make, Model, Engine Size, AC or not, VTEC or no" etc

I don't know hell there not my cars that are getting messed around with, but the truth is a lot of times I see topics and little experiments here that make me wonder why in the hell would somone want to buy a used car.

Thanks
Evan

P.S Dealership people get a real kick when they see some of the mess ups caused by people who think some magazine replaces years of hard work done by engineers.

even checked with local Acura dealer

To avoid all the misinformation though, just stick with what you're "supposed" to use because really the difference is very minimal and cost is nearly the same...which is about 5-6 bucks
