Default HyTech muffler rattle

Just had my HyTech header + exhaust installed but the muffler is rattling against the car. Anyone else? Recommended solutions?

check heatshields. and the rear 2 hangers, as well as the middle hangers.

Mine was rattling for a little while...once it was a heat shield, and the other time it was a hanger that slipped off the car.

Here's a few pics... does everything look ok?

Passenger-side hanger

Driver-side hanger

And last but not least, the muffler clearance (and where I'm guessing the rattling is)

That third pic is definitely your rattle, or at least one of them. Remove the heatshield and hammer it out to give the exhaust more clearance. Or you can just remove the whole thing.

There's not heat shield in that area and definitely that's his rattle problem. I'm impressed they did not offer that much clearance in that part of the exhaust...

Is the tip close to the bumper? If so, why don't you try using the lower muffler hanger rods.

I'll be crawling under my car later today to re-install my muffler...I'll check my clearances and see what we did differently. I know for a fact that we cut off the low part of the hangers...only the top ones are still intact.

Because the lower rods are not hanging rods. They are there to keep the muffler in position.

The shop that installed everything confirmed that hanging on the lower hangers (which from the general consensus aren't actually hangers at all) would cause the muffler to hit the control arm.

The guy who's doing the install knows what's he's doing so unless someone can offer another suggestion, I'm about to let him take a hammer to the bottom of the car.

Why don't you just get longer rubber hangers instead?

Don't try to "clearance" your chassis.

Just get a muffler that fits properly or get longer hangers like Jonathan said.

Are you using the proper hangers on the car?

Take it to midas and ask them nicely to stop the rattle. Probably less than $20.

This is terrible advice.

What would you expect Midas to do?

Do you realize what the problem is?

Actually, the muffler should have fit. I got a full HyTech system designed for the Type R but I guess that's the drawback of anything built-to-order (meaning minor differences are going to be a part of any hand-made product - not a problem and understandable in my book).

As suggested, where can I get some longer hangers (a link would make sure this newbie doesn't buy the wrong item)?

I believe this is the part that Austin cut off.

Seeing that the rubber hanger is tilted with the lower portion intact, I'm hoping that cutting it off will let it hang straight and offer the bit of clearance I need.

Thanks to everyone! Gotta love the power of H-T!

Yep...that's what I cut off, looking at my muffler, it appears that I have ~1/2-3/4" clearance in the area that you believe that you're rubbing.
