TECH: Lost speedometer, lost vtec, got check engine light...
I was driving my Turbo B18C del Sol last night after replacing the thermostat and coolant. And the car was once again running cool. Which was a relief. But after 5 minutes or so of normal city driving the "check engine" light came on. But the car seemed to be running fine. Since I had a faulty o2 sensor I thought it was most likely the culprit of the fault code. And continued driving.
After taking off from a light and boosting it a little I noticed my speedo wasn't working either, simultaniously realized that the car was NOT opening vtec and running rather sluggish on 10 pounds of boost. It felt like it struggled to rev. So I went straight home and parked it. I didnt want to risk doing anymore damage. Although my cooling woes have been cured. I'm now left with another problem.
After looking the car over last night. I unplugged and inspected the speed sensor. It looked ok. But their is no way of telling without replacing it. I know one of my o2 sensors was on the brink. But why would my speedo stop? I know that without a speedo you cant have vtec because the speed sensor triggers the vtec effect.
I'm at a loss, here. Any input on this topic would be appreciated. Thanks.

I believe code 1? It's just one solid flash of the CE light. It also has a series of 3 quick flashes. And I dont know what code that is. I'll probably take it over to my friend that has the manuals. But if any of you have experienced this before. Any input is welcome. I have a 95 GSR ecu.

I once pulled out a lot of plugs for cleaning and forgot the plug back the speedo sensor afterwards. It did exactly what you described. No speedo, no vtec, CE light, mileage didn't roll either. So I guess your speedo sensor is not fully plugged in or even broken.
After I plugged the speedo sensor back in, the CE light was still on. I had to unplug the battery for a few minutes to get rid of the CE light.

check the plug on the actual sensor mounted to the tranny... mine did the same thing and it ended up being thespeed sensor... one of the pins on the speed sensor plug acutal corroded away and there was nothing there... u prolly dont need a new speed sensor im guessing... just the plug on top if this is the case
Thanks for the replying guys. I think I've narrowed it down to a corroded speed sensor plug. Thanks 4dr-gsr! After close inspection, I realized my plug is shot! The Acura dealer wants $30 bucks for that darn plug. I'm headed there now. Later all.

Hey Rod, what's up?
I'm going through the same situation right after Justin and me installed the Greddy exhaust on my R about 3 weeks ago. We spent all night trying to figure out what the hell was throwing the CEL,but up to now still no luck.
From the reading of the code we kept getting that the o2 sensor (secondary) wasn't working, so we left it at that and he ordered a sensor for me along with a new CAT and a DC JDM Header,so hopefully the code will clear when installed.
Since then i've been putting up with the crazy speedo, either it works or bounces around for about 20 minutes until a good warm up, then after that it works fine.
Let me know if you figure the problem out. I think there's a short somewhere but I checked all the wires to the sensor and everything seems peace.
