went up to the track tonight and raced for the first time..wasnt too disapointed at all, stripped it out to just one recaro...raced my friend with a b20vtec in an EJ/EK coupe, beat him both times however the second time he came much closer to beating me, heres my best slip

my b18 hatch is in left, his b20 coupe in right


and for people accustomed to the track (was my 1st time there) any tips for getting any better, or is this around where I should be?

 

lower your R/T and you'll see how much faster you were. Thats the only reason why he was almost beating you was becuase you were a sleep at the light.

IMO, get that 2.2 60' down to a 2.1 with a better launching technique (feathering helps) and stickier, low pressure tires

times arent bad at all though, but there is always room for improvement

 

i think you can get a low 14 maybe faster im assuming you have a b18c.
my friends 95 ex b18c runs 14.3 so i think you can do better than that after practice.
tonesdef- lowering your rt doesnt change your 1/4 time unless you are bracket racing

i'm assuming he's running a B18B1......with a fully stripped hatch and a B18C1, he'd be hitting high 13's and have VERY HIGH trap speeds.........so going by this ET and trap, he's running an LS

if you are running a C1, you need to practice driving

 

im running a b18c1 out of a 95 gsr...was on street tires and still had carpet, console, door panels and all that stuff in...all i took out was the passenger recaro back seats and spare tire/jack.

 

hmm.....work on your speedshifting, if you are speedshifting, and your launch needs to be worked on as well

you should seriously be running 13 second passes at close to 100mph with that motor/tranny

but then again, i guess it all comes down to the condition/potentcy of the motor.....some are dud's, some are normal, and some have superpowers

 

yea it was my first time time up with it so I am pretty happy with how it turned out...but im definitely going to go up again, cant get better if i dont keep trying.

I was launching at around 3k...beaver springs is goofy as it is a gradual incline, when you stage its also inclined just enough that if you let off the brake to rev up to launch you fall out of stage which is gay, so I reved up right at the 2nd yellow and let off...just need some more practice at the tree.

That is actually most of your weight for your interior so you were almost as good as gutted inside. You could take the door panels, carpet and chip out the sound-deadening/fire-retardant stuff too and that would save some weight, probably around 30lbs give or take.

Then work on your launch and shifting.

wrong, reaction time has nothing to do with overall quartermile time.

work on the 60 foot, not the R/T. you can fall asleep all day at the line, your 1/4 time does not start until you cross the lines.

 

your reaction time and 60ft.'s are all over the place..but im sure with some practice you guys will be squeezing out better times...

My friend who has a 95' GSR slips his clutch around 5k, he ran a 14.6 with just intake and exhaust with only taking out his back seats and spare/jack. Try slipping the clutch at a little higher rpm then 3, the difference is really noticable. Then he went back without the pass. seat and lowered the tire pressure and was launching at around 7k, waiting for his tires to catch than shifting into 2nd. He ran a 14.5 with that, with only a 2.2 60ft time. So just try working on the launch. Hope this helps.

 

when you say b18 you mean lsvtec right?

 

were you on radials?

my first run I launched at 5k and ran a 15 flat...was harder to hook up, when launching at 3k it really made the difference- im sure if I was on slicks though launching higher would of helped.

Work on the 60' like everyone else said.... And tell your friend the same thing, he needs it more than you do.

I know what he means, he isnt saying his times will be better, but with a better reaction time and a faster car you will put a couple car lengths on the person your racing. whereas a crappy reaction time and a fast car will make it look like a closer race.

 

my friends eg ran a 14.6 witha b16 and some bolt ons and a slipping clutch.. you can hit high 13's easy with the proper mods , tires, and driving
